Thanks for the great race, everyone! I didn't manage to keep up with Mark, as I'd planned, but still managed a 2min and 4.9 second PB, and a Nonathalon score of 943, so I am happy.

Godfried and I started with no handicap and Mark followed 4 seconds later. I rowed an easy 2:07ish until Mark caught up, then we stayed together for the next 5k. We sped up the pace by 1 sec per 2k. At 6k, I realized I wouldn't be able to finish at that rate so I dropped back from Mark and just tried to hang on to a 2:05 pace for the rest of the race. Godfried passed me, but then in the final 300m I managed to summon what strength I had left for a sprint and edged him out in a photo finish by 2 tenths of a second!

Mark did a super job of keeping and beating his incremental pace targets and a nice final sprint. He also got a huge PB. I think Paul and Jaap, who started with over 7 min Handicaps, also had a good race though my eyes were mostly on the action up front. I was over 1700m along before they were even allowed to start. Of course, all us newbies kindof sandbagged it so it didn't make for a close finish.

But anyway - good job all, I had lots of fun!

Krysta:

You're an animal (meant as a compliment of course)!

A 943 Nonathlon score is great. Keep this up and you'll be getting free trips to the CRASH-B's!

-- Mark

Although the 35:05.9 was the best I had done this season, I knew that I could go faster. The 34:44.1 is a new PR, 9 sec faster than the previous from last year, so I'm satisfied with that result.

It was a great to see you and Krysta race side by side. Congratulations with all your PB/SB's. Paul's 35:52 is very good time as well, certainly with a once a week training. Hope you will soon have enough business to get some assistance in the assembly Paul, so that you will also find some time for erging again. With your new age category coming up next year, you can become world class (but not with one training/week)

Jaap

Krysta, Jaap and Mark,

Congratulations with your new PB. Very good race you have done there

Jaap and Paul had to wait a long time, what did you do in the mean time: rowed a 2K.?

Hennie

With the baby, I haven't slept very well, and I only got one workout in last week. I also stayed up the night before to finish the USC football game. (I need to keep my west coast connection some how!) I was up early to catch a train back to Boston for the race, so another night of little sleep. (The family is still in NY, so I'm getting some sleep now). The 2k warmup around 2:00 got my HR up to 165. Oh, great. This was really going to suck.

I started at a 1:57 pace to just get 39:00, and had about a 490m lead when Jeff finally started. But I just couldn't do this. The past 3 weeks have been crazy. I need to get back on the saddle this week. Only 14 weeks until CRASH-Bs. Plenty of time, but those seconds are slipping away with this backwards training.

Anyway, it was nice for Jeff to hang in with me for a bit. I just looked at this as a training session. Next week on Saturday should be completely different. We'll see.

The 2k is up for next weekend, so I'll need SB/PBs for this handicap race.

Also, there's a HM on the 17th at the normal time, which is an hour after Sir Pirates.
