I agree about the Nonathlon, and have been using it to target my weakest of the ten ranking pieces. Since CRASH-B's I've been taking at least one shot each week at my worst score. I hope that it will eventually balance me out and therefore eventually improve my better areas as well.

This morning, after a warmup of an hour of show-shoveling followed by the usual stretching and erg warmup, I nailed a new 10km PB of 37:39.9. Well chuffed.

Rick
Rowed my second ever 2K today to ring in week five on the Interactive Plan. Took 20 seconds off the first pitiful effort and finished feeling reasonably comfortable in 7:47.5.
Happy with that as it seems to confirm I'm training at the right intensity during my UT2 sessions, which are making up the bulk of my rows so far as my immediate goal is weight loss. 7:48 2K is 2:15 UT2 and I can hold 2:14 for 30-45 minutes@20 spm now with my heart rate between 65 and 70%.
AvHR on the test was 85%, so I guess I could have pushed harder. AvSR was 25 and at this point I really can't go up and down the slide very much faster than that anyway.
Will probably target 7:30 at next test in five weeks time, though 1:52 still looks pretty hard to this beginner.

Edited to add: I see that's narrowly vaulted me into the top 1,000 in the 30-39 age group. Such great heights!

I think you have picked a good time to beat 7:30. 8,222 meters in 30 min at 27 spm.

This started as a normal 30 min session with HR capped at 85% but after 20 mins I decided to ignore the cap and push on. Average HR was 83% and touched 93% at the end. (Dropped to 93 after 2 min rest.)

Did a second 30 min - capped 85% (1:53) and then cycled 20k home. Tired now but pleased with the progress after 13 weeks back into rowing.

Gonna attempt a new 10k record tommorow at 1:46.9 split. MY coach told me i should be able to do it with the 2k, 15k, and 20k records I have made in the past 2 months.

2k test, "for fun," to keep people company

total: 6:56.8/1:44.2/309.8w @ 34spm

Quarters:
500m: 1:43.7/314.2w @ 35spm
1000m: 1:44.6/305.8w @ 33spm
1500m: 1:44.5/307.0w @ 33spm
2000m: 1:44.1/310.4w @ 34spm

Pre-race prep: six minutes of warmup, including 3 power 15's at or faster than race pace, and a 40s piece of rowing at 1:44/34spm. Also, one super burrito from Anna's Taqueria (carnitas, no cheese) consumed 45 minutes prior to testing.

First sub seven minute 2k. Fourth 2k in the last three months, after not having done one seriously since spring of 2000.

Excellent! Sub-7:00 for the first time is always a nice milestone.

And chnage your signature. Sub-7 (and by such a solid margin) is not suck-ish. It's ah.....er....em....something different than suck-ish.

Again, congratulations.

Rick

60min trial.
I was all alone in the basement and didn't know how fast I could go or how much power I had left at the end until to late and no one to call the finish sprint. Still the result was better than I had hoped for.

1:52.1 average and 16056m. If I try it again I'll aim for 16150 since I was very comfortable at the end and the last 5 pulls I made a sprint and got to 1:33-1:34.

It bothers me that is bothers me that I didn't succeed in giving it all I've got

Happy to have gone over 16k though

It was a PB by roughly 850 m and the first serious-ish attempt

New PB for 60 mins - 16,116m.

Previous was 15,538 so good improvement. My 30 min training sessions capped at 85% HR have been down around 1:50.4 so today I decided to try the 60 min at 1:52 and see what happened.

It felt fairly smooth and relaxed and HR was good. I maintained around 1:52 from the start (average was 1:51.7) and HR got to 73% after around 9 mins and 80% at 33 mins but stayed below 85% until the last 3-4 minutes when I increased the pace a little. Average worked out at 79%. So, there is more there; I just need the confidence now to push at a slightly faster rate than 1:52.

Feeling pretty pleased about going above 16,000m but tired now.

Neil

Congrats on the PB Neilb!

It's hard to know how fast you can go for the hour. Good Luck on pacing it better next time. We got similar distances and perhaps I can close up on you next time.
