Kevin,

We have about 12-15 people, including myself that use the Total Trainer for SS. It's a great piece of equipment for the price. Personally, I think it's much better than the Total Gym. Chuck Norris or not. Chrissy ain't to bad, though. I think the price that John has given is for the regular size glideboard. If I were to re-order I'd buy the unit with the longer glideboard. It's worth the extra yen. We did change out the pulleys, though. The ones that come with the unit aren't as heavy duty as we thought they would be. And with the usage we needed some better ones. I can't remember where we got them, but if you purchase one I can dig up the info for you.

Yoda

More pictures of a rollerboard, 5 through 11:

http://www.nordicskiracer.com/Training/ ... >

I cut plywood for the track and trolley yesterday, and got the rest of the materials today. This includes a skateboard that was on sale for $8.87, and can be used for the base of the trolley.

I would suggest not using a skateboard for the rollerboard. The skateboard trucks (wheels) turn too easily. You would be better off using heavy duty (non-swivel) casters that you can purchase at your local hardware store.

The track and trolley are now complete.

All that is left is construction of the stand.

I've decided to do this the regular way, as in the plan, with adjustable heights.

My first location will be attached to a fence, with the bottom legs of the track on the edge of the patio. This is highly accessible and convenient.

A second possibility is with an adjustable frame attached to steel posts in the ground on the north side of the house. This would be quite useful in the summer when the weather is warmer.

In the meantime my drill gave out after 16 years and I got another one at Costco for $22. Not bad.

Also I've been teaching my dog to ride around in the trolley.

I cracked one of those welds on my TG using much less weight than the stated capacity (400 pounds). I had 100 pounds on the bar and a body weight under 180, and the weld cracked under minimal ballistic stress. Learning: It has its uses, but the Total Gym is not a substitute for a leg press machine or hack squat machine, even with a Super Slow protocol.

Porkchop

Yoda,

Quite true.

Actually I need to get the hooks and eyes.

I wasn't planning to do it that way, but now am, and have been working on other projects in the meantime.

I'll keep you posted.
