Posted the result (7107) but will definitely give that one another shot, as my split was a several seconds better in the last 5 min than in the first 10 min. Rowing a test at 5:30am is never one's best! This is pretty much deliberate as I use each successive attempt to try and locate the boundaries without blowing up and not finishing.

I think this session is tougher mentally than aerobically (tho it is not fun either) and so having a 'good' idea of what you are capable of from experience lends itself to seeking what you might be able to achieve potentially.

I would look at holding 2:06.5 / 2:07 for the first 15 mins or so and then pick it up a little and then go hard for the last 5 and die on the last 2 - then use this info for your PB attempt

It is all good fun and painfully addictive - I was a bit sore this morning and now have got it in my head I might be able to squeeze a bit more out tonight

George
Don't know if I'll make Boston as I am working toward a March date in London for the Vesta Vets Head of the River. Probably won't make SDCC either since it's the next weekend. Will I see you at Green Lake? Princeton?
Regards,
M

Just given this my last shot as I'm pretty tied up with family etc between now and the end of the month. (This basically means that I can do non-competitive rows that do not mind being interrupted, but no chance of undisturbed time!) Best distance yet of 7,035mm which I'm pretty pleased about as I really wanted to beat 7k! Only a few metres short of Mary in FFII too... Looking forward to the February challenge already.

Good luck to anyone else who has got something left in the tank for the January CTC.

Good job, Jenny! Good job George! and special kudos to Rick Bayko - turning in a higher score the day after a race. *wow* can't imagine even feeling like getting out of bed after organizing an event & racing - very impressive.

I tried the piece again today at the much more reasonable hour of 6:30am. Took George's advice and tried to keep 2:06/2:05 on the screen for the first half (much better than the 2:08 I started with on my first try & had to pull out of that hole). Actually went a bit faster in the middle, but payed for it at the end when I could absolutely not sprint. 7180, about a 70m improvement - even pacing works! A triple expresso also helped.

Mike, we may end up going to Henley, but Green Lake looks like a possibility for me (very convenient dates). Good luck in the Vesta head race; strange to think of a head race in the spring. Enjoy.

Well done, Mary.

I figure Bayko must be related to the Energizer Bunny. Do you think he has one of those fluffy pink outfits?

Tom
