Keep up the good work!

Great job on losing 26 pounds I spent two weeks in Moscow July 2003, and never walked so much in my life. I loved the subways and found Russia a very beautiful and interesting place to visit. Now if I can just find a really good recipe for Borscht...

Happy rowing!
Robin

Hi All,
Just got back in town from my "rowing" vacation. Spent the week at the Craftsbury Sculling School and managed to actually lose 2 pounds... Woo Hoo! If you have never been, the food is in abudance and makes it a bit challenging to not overeat at every meal. I mean you row three times a day so why not eat as much as you want?
~Grace

Hey Y'all!

My name is Rob and I just joined your AWESOME group-I really like the supportive atmosphere.

I'm 30 something and weigh more than I should. I'm a dad, husband, and all around nice guy from Texas (hence the word "Y'all"). When I'm not coaching my kids' soccer teams I'm running my own healthcare service companies-and probably sicker than a lot of our patients. Well this year is different, I've got a reliable #2 at work and I've made it my priority to get healthier (both my parents having insulin dependent diabetes was also a factor!) Don't worry, I just had a check-up and the doc says "Well, Rob, your sugar's normal, blood pressure's great, and thyroid seems to be functioning OK-your just fat."

When I left the army 10+ years ago I was running 8 miles a day and rowing quite a bit. I'd like to get back to running but I think rowing would be better on my knees. Some guys get through their 30's and get a motorcycle, a sports car, a new girlfriend-I got a C2 and a guitar!

I don't have a specific weight goal, but I'd like to be generally healthier and make exercise a part of my priorities again. Currently, I'm rowing @ 3-4 times a week for about 20-30 minutes, depending on what my RowPro says. I'm hoping to increase workout frequencies to 5-6 times a week with durations of 30-45 minutes. I'd like to row the Crash-B in 2006 and the Texas Water Safari (grueling 260+ mile canoe race) in 2008. My son is 4 so I'd like us to get active with some outdoor physical activities; my daughter is 9 so I'd just like to be around for her wedding day and meet the man I'm borrowing her from.

I hope to gain from this experience a mutually supportive environment, a healthier physical and mental state, and a couple of great friends.

Go Row Pain, Row Gain Go!

Thx

Rob

P.S. What about those San Antonio Spurs!

Welcome - sounds to me like you've got the attitude to succeed, and certainly the motivation - currently 4 years old, and whose going to want a dad that he has to work hard to beat at sports as he grows up! Besides which, you'll be setting a great example for the rest of junior's days!

"P.S. What about those San Antonio Spurs!"

For those of us not born under the sign of the Lone Star, what's a San Antonio Spur? Something to do with horseback riding?

More to the point, what about Lance Armstrong!!! I have no clear understanding of what it takes to win one day's race during the Tour de France, except it's nigh on impossible for all but a very few super athletes. To win a whole Tour is all but inconceivable. To dominate the entire race for seven years is truly exceptional. And to do it after beating cancer - I don't think there's any superlative in the English language to describe it. Let's hope he decides to take up the C2 in retirement!

Eddy Merckx was clearly a better all-rounder. Miguel Indurain, Bernard Hinault and Jacques Anquetil could have given him a run for his money. (Bearing in mind the changes in equipment over the years). Lance has concentrated on just ONE event per year for the last seven years. (That's not to say that Lance isn't a world champion and isn't a worthy winner.)

On the subject of riding a stage; there is L'Etape du Tour for amateur riders.

There's a good write up of it at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_s ... stm

The details and how to apply for 2006 are at http://www.letapedutour.com/

Seven of my friends from North Hampshire Road Club rode L'Etape du Tour, Barry has his writeup at http://www.barrytooke.net/etape.htm

Wow, it sure has gotten quiet in the forums lately...

How is everyone doing? Do anybody need any additional motivation?

I was just nudged on Sunday (thanks, Jim) and have gotten myself back on my rower after a short, but too long, week and a half or so.

Anyway, it's good to see we're still making progress on the team leaders board. I don't know if we're getting closer to the ducks, but southern cross is right behind us...

Take care and happy rowing, everyone.

[FONT=Times]Jason, glad my nudge was well received and effective.

I knew that I needed to make some contacts to keep myself honest.. so I emailed the person ahead of me on the team and the one behind.... I need the person in front to keep rowing so I have someone to shoot for... and the folks behind me to keep rowing so I don't slack off.

I admire the power rowers on the team, but would have to give up life as I know it (and live in my chiro's offce) to come close to their output....

My fellow mortals and I merely need to keep rowing and encouraging each other to make whatever gains/improvements are possible

Also... I am currently hurting for something motivational to watch on TV now that the Tour de France is over...

Jim

My rowing time during the week has been hijacked, but thank God there are the weekends! And I'm definately ready for that time...

...I still try to save a few minutes to peak in at our forum just for a little motivation to hold over until the weekend gets here. Plus watching the people behind me gaining meters helps too!

Hey RPRG members! I just joined your club today. Our rowing club started this year and we're slowly gaining members though as of now we only have 2 highschoolers (me being one of them) on the team, so I decided to take up the Erg and hopefully loose some weight before school starts. I'm trying for Erging every day we don't row, so about 3-4 days a week.
Looking forward to helping the club's meters increase!
AJ
