e-row

Post by [old] Sentinal93 » June 21st, 2004, 6:33 pm

Hey everyone, i just came upon this message board today. I row for the university at albany in Albany, New York, and have become very involved in rowing lately. This was my first half marathon, i'd have to say i didn't think i'd be in shape for it. My goal was to do a 2:00 split, so i decided to start off at about a 1:55. I wound up finishing in just under 1 hour 19 minutes, a 1:52.3 split. I was surprised i did that well, and i account that to the fact i took yesterday off to rest up for the piece and drank a lot of water. Interestingly enough, by the end of the piece i had stopped sweating to any great extent, i normally sweat alot too. I always bring an extra change of clothes because i soak everything i am wearing. Does anyone find that after about an hour of rowing they deplete most of their fluids and became dehydrated? Also, does anyone take a break during the piece for water?

e-row

I rowed a HM today on e-row with Thomas, ASH, and Joachim. The row started fine. But after 20 minutes all the boats must have sunk since they no longer moved on my screen.

I set off at a 1:47 pace and was hoping to hold it to the end. Unfortunately, I ran out of energy around the halfway mark and struggled until the end. I finished with an average pace of 1:49 giving me a time of 1:16:37. This is my best for the season, but about 2 minutes off my best from last year.

Sentinal, to answer your questions, I don't take breaks for HMs nor do I stop for water. For full marathons, I take a very quick water break about every 5K during the first 2 hours.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
