I love my D, and have put almost 9 million meters on it. Nver came anywhere close to that on an A, B or C.

The first time I used a D was at an indoor event, and I was cursing that handle for the entire 2K, although we recently ordered the new handle because our old one seems to absorbing more and more sweat and was becoming too difficult to hold over long, sweaty pieces. I now like it a great deal.

I think the new handle is better, but does take some usage to get used to it. It's hard to judge just by a couple uses.

This thread simply proves the adage "to each his/her own."

I purchased a new Model B in 1988 and used that with considerable satisfaction until around 1993, when I sold it and purchased a new Model C.

Personally speaking, that was a mistake. While the C was lighter and quieter, it never seemed to provide the same sense of weighty momentum and substantial resistance I got from pulling on the 40 pound aluminum flywheel of the Model B.

And there is something to be said for that deeply resonant VROOM sound that the B flywheel generates; it reminds me of a high-torque sports car engine when you rev it up. So in 2000 I searched Ebay, lucked out, and found a truly mint condition Model B. Like a few other B afficianados here, I've upgraded the seat, footrests, chain rest, chain/handle swivel piece, and added a PM2. It shares our exercise room with the Model C, which is now my wife's. And I'm never tempted to use her erg.

Glad that we can all be happy with our own personal choices.

I hae a model D with the pm3 and new handle. I row with a club and they have model c's. I find that the model D handle is a vast improvement mostly because it doesnt get slimy and gross after one sweats alot. The Model C after it gets sweaty i can barely grip it. I prefer the pm 3 over the pm 2, it is just easier to read. I enjoy the seat better on the model D. the model D is simply a better machine.
