Session for last night was 2x5000m (28spm 1:58-2:00) with a 20mins rest in between each set. Decided I'd go on the static bike in between just to keep warm..<br /><br />Plan was to go out at 28spm and maintain a pace that felt comfortable (as long as it was faster than 2:00) for both sets. Results were:<br /><br />1) 5000m 19:18.5 1:55.9 peak183bpm avg166bpm 27spm<br /><br />- 12mins bike avg122bpm 2.97m<br /><br />2) 5000m 19:25.7 1:56.9 peak187bpm avg174bpm 27spm<br /><br />Finished off with a 10mins cooldown:<br /><br />10mins 1780m 2:48.5 avg133bpm 14spm<br /><br />Really pleased with the two 5000m sets. Even managed a final 1000m split of 1:54.3 (28spm) on the second set, which was the lowest 1000m split out for the session.<br /><br />So that was a total of 11,780m. Nowhere near the figures for Speedy but in my book, it all helps!

I've lost all my enthusiasm for going on the rower! So if you're interested, we could do a session or two on some really nice Model Ds (we've got one with slides as well if you like) and then you can relax in the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi or go for a gentle swim (indoors or outdoors) if you like. How does that sound? Have a think about it. We miss your metres and rowing really will help your back (like a lot of others on Taff Attack, I too have suffered with back problems and getting back on the ergo has really helped it recover much faster).<br /><br />Good Luck and let me know if you're interested.<br /><br />Cheers,<br />Niall<br />

Chippy, Aussie Taff, Niall, many thanks for your replies. Niall that's a great offer - I do have my own model D but it'd be good to train with someone else and also nice to meet a fellow Taff so I'll take you up on it. Enjoy your holiday - going anywhere nice?

Starting off at Orlando (we're in the process of buying a holiday home there) and then driving to Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach, Key Largo and Key West.<br /><br />Will be back in the UK 30th August so will contact you soon after to arrange a training session.

Hi Chris,<br /><br />I put the times in my signature as I do each category, guess you've spotted it by now. Good luck with the row, if you hold 1:48s you won't need any pain killers - you will be soaring high on a feeling of elation ( the pain killers may be needed later on when the euphoria of a sub 21:40 wears off though ). Thanks for giving me the incentive a few weeks ago to go for it, I find I really need that sort of motivation to make it happen. See if you can do an 'Edgebaston' and win by 2 (seconds), even .2 will be good enough to see the Oz 'go down' !!<br /><br />5K for me this weekend all going well<br /><br />Martin

Hi Niall,<br /><br />Great training sessions, good to see you make a strong comeback after the (temporary) form setback. I really enjoy reading your daily Blog postings and seeing the training story unfold (must confess to being sorely tempted to post a reply along the lines of "where's my DVD you slacko" to one of the posts but fortunately was denied access).<br /><br />Good of you to offer to get Lynsey back on the 'straight and narrow', I always enjoy a bit of company when at the gym and I suspect you are the same. Must be time to incorporate a few PB attempts into the training regime soon - 5K and 6K seem to be the flavours of the month !<br /><br />If the website is still a work in progress (where's that .... ) I have a couple more times in my signature to be added I think.<br /><br />Keep up the good form,<br /><br />Martin <br /><br />PS have a great trip to the US of A. How about buying a place in Oz as well, then we can erg together on your Oz hols.

Seriously though, I must admit I thought "Guests" were allowed to post replies. No harm in registering if you want to leave me a note - be a nice surprise. Must admit, I can't remember whether you wanted a copy of the DVD so sorry about that mate. I'll get a copy sent over on special carrier albatross.<br /><br /><!--QuoteBegin-AussieTaff+Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(AussieTaff @ Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM)</b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I always enjoy a bit of company when at the gym and I suspect you are the same. <br /> </td></tr></table><br />I think it's the Welsh in us all, we're a gregarious breed! <br /><br /><!--QuoteBegin-AussieTaff+Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(AussieTaff @ Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM)</b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Must be time to incorporate a few PB attempts into the training regime soon - 5K and 6K seem to be the flavours of the month !<br /> </td></tr></table><br />I thought the same after Sunday's 2x5000m session. I was pleasantly surprised at the pace I was able to maintain for both sets and really feel that 5K may be my strongest distance right now. Shows all the base endurance training is paying off. I'm not going to come anywhere near your PBs though so this Lightweight wont be troubling you at all I can assure you! What I willpromise though is that if I can find a rowing machine on holiday, I'll have a crack at the 5K!<br /><br /><!--QuoteBegin-AussieTaff+Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(AussieTaff @ Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM)</b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--QuoteEBegin-->If the website is still a work in progress (where's that ....  ) I have a couple more times in my signature to be added I think.<br /> </td></tr></table><br />I'm a bit behind in my website updates so will try and get all outstanding updates done before I go on holiday.<br /><br /><!--QuoteBegin-AussieTaff+Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(AussieTaff @ Aug 8 2005, 08:02 PM)</b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--QuoteEBegin-->PS have a great trip to the US of A. My wife and I would love to go to Oz on holiday but are waiting for our kids to get a bit older so they appreciate it more (or should I wait even longer and get them to pay for themselves ).

Time for some Welsh humour guys:<br /><br />A farmer was out on his Welsh hillside tending his flock one day, when he saw a man drinking with a cupped hand from the stream which ran down from one of his fields. <br /><br />Realising the danger, he shouted to the man, "Paid a yfed y dwr! Mae'n ych-y-fi!" (Don't drink the water. It's disgusting!) <br /><br />The man at the stream lifted his head and put a cupped hand to his ear, shrugged his shoulders at the farmer, and carried on drinking. <br /><br />Realising the man at the stream couldn't hear him, the farmer moved closer. <br /><br />"Paid a yfed ! Dwr ych-a-fi ! Defaid yn cachu yn y dwr!" (Don't drink. Water's disgusting. Sheep crap in the water!) <br /><br />Still the walker couldn't hear the farmer. <br /><br />Finally the farmer walked right up to the man at the stream and once again said .. <br /><br />"Dwr yn ych-a-fi ! Paid a'i yfed !" (Water's disgusting. Don't drink it !) <br /><br />"I'm dreadfully sorry my good man, I couldn't understand a word you said dear boy ! Can't you speak English?" said the man at the stream in a fine English accent. <br /><br />"Oh I see " said the farmer. <br /><br />"I was just saying ... if you use both hands you can get more in ... !”
