Weight Loss/ Weight Control

Now, for the water one. I'm sensing that you don't actuall stop, but that you row one handed while sucking down water from a water bottle. Correct? I nearly fell of when I tried to row one handed before while reaching for buttons on the PM3. I assume it's a skill that one develops.

I'm left handed, so I use my left hand to lift a cycling water bottle. With my right hand I loop the index finder to the left of the D-ring that holds the chain. I also drop down to 6m strokes at 15SPM. It's just enough to keep the metres ticking down but not all out power stuff.

I have thought about using a camelbak http://www.camelbak.com/rec/recreation.cfm so I can drink and row at full pace.
Thanks the chuckle this morning, I almost lost my mouthful of coffee as I read about you almost falling off the erg. Yes, it is a skill one develops. I have taken classes at Xeno's Erg Studio where he does some drills which require one hand rowing. Granted this is done on an erg with a slide, but it helps with learning to balance. To take a drink, I slow down to a paddle, really I just keep the slide moving; take my drink; and do a power 10 to get back on track if I am trying to keep a certain pace.

All of this is really hard for me to do at the moment as I have fractured the bone in my right index finger. My hand got caught in my car door 3 weeks ago. I couldn't figure out why the swelling wouldn't subside. My doctor took an xray on Thursday and informed me I would need to wear a splint to let it heal. (My favorite part was when he told me not to get the splint wet ) The finger in the splint was very entertaining in my single yesterday. It is a little easier to use the erg with a splint.

I have also thought about using a camelback on the erg as well as in my single, but just haven't tried it...yet. If someone does try it and finds it is is a good answer, please let me know.

Off to erg....
~Grace

Anyone else rowing while watching the Tour de France? I planned to do 10k... but Lance still had quite a while to go when I reached 10.... I ended up doing 16k and was pulling strong as I watched him power past all but one.... leaving most of the field in the dust... what a machine!

I've been away due to a back injury and then vacation... hopefully I took it easy enough that the 16k doesn't bring back the lower back pain... I've got to keep working hard if I am going to catch the next closest team members... with only 53,000 until I make my 3 million though... and only half way through the Tour I ought to have some decent contributions before the end of the month.

I'm glad to be a part of a team with so many dedicated members.

Jim

Thanks! My fiancee used to row a lot, and she has helped me, along with the forums here. I used to run a lot, but rowing (so far) is a lot more fun! The whole logging your meters and competing with yourself and everyone else is a big motivating factor for me, and it should keep me rowing for quite a while. I started reading the forums before I even ordered my c2

Today, I rowed my first marathon over at the Y, and I am beat, but happy -- I guess that means I'm "upbeat".

When I read the rowing times of everyone, I think I need to change my sign-on name to the turtle. My parts for my B are on the way. It is so much easier rowing at home where I can watch a video or TV while I row.

The Turtle,

Mike

Mike,

Congrats on the marathon. I'm in awe!

Guess that problem with 5K to go was similar to the 'wall' that marathon runners talk about somewhere around the 20 mile stage?

Afraid I've beeen very little help to the team over the last couple of weeks - kids are home from college, and while they're pefectly capable of sustaining life at university, immediately they come home they expect to find meals prepared at regular intervals, etc. Saying "Sort yourselves out, I'm off to the gym, then I'm going to have half a melon when I get back" doesn't seem to motivate them to feed themselves!

Now have some vacation coming up, a long way from a C2, but will try to crack 500K for the season before I go.

Keep on pulling - be nice to find we're still in front of MIT when I get back!

Ken
