Not sure if I'm ready for the neck and neck meter competition again--that really ran me ragid!

Hey Martin, how are those elbows doing, anyway? Have you considered switching to a C handle? I know that Paul Smith's tennis elbow almost immediately vanished when he switched. But wait a minute, you are using a club erg, aren't you. They might not take kindly to your switching the handle.

Carla

Hi Carls,

Can't blame the handle unfortunately - same old battered 'C' ergs at the gym from when I started over a year ago, No, injury is entirely my fault - as you rightly said in an earlier post I upped the metres in readiness for a FM attempt, fully expecting some ramifications. Unfortunately I didn't pick up on the subtle 'early warning' symptoms (stiff near the inner part of elbow for first few strokes only, sore on point of bone of inner extremity of elbow when gently tapped) until too many long rows had happened.

Physio daughter Jenny picked it straight away when I arrived in Queensland to visit them and Mum - 'Golfers Elbow' (i.e. inflamed tendons joining bone on INNER part of elbow, 'Tennis Elbow' is same for OUTER part of elbow I think). More cheesed off I didn't twig earlier than the actual injury (injuries par for the course in this age bracket !!). Recovery time about 4 weeks if sensible, for me ??? Couldn't resist the gym 2K challenge any longer - best time thus far was a 7:14 by a gym instructor (7:54 in the 50 - 59 group) so away I went ! 7:00.8 and I'm top dog with a sore arm

Well done on sticking to the Thanksgiving challenge, you deserve the 200K what with all your family and concert commitments. Once you catch up though it's "Game On" as Chris would say, also too many Taff are starting to catch us up.

12 MPS at 20 SPM - a powerful row indeed

Martin

PS What happened to the '3 Prizes' idea? Sounded good, especially if one category was - 'Oldest Taff to do a sub 7 2K'

Hi James, Chris and Daren,

Great rows for 30 mins and 10K James and the HM guys. I'm looking forward to being spurred on over the longer distances now you taffs are up there too - haven't got the motivation to keep hitting the pain barrier when on my lonesome (and Speedy's times are in a league of their own). So once the arm's OK it's Game On? The way you all are PB'ing I'll soon be eating Welsh coal dust ??

Martin

Top.

I rowed a PB for 30 mins last week - didnt check your distance, imagine my dismay at missing you by 20 meters! Still could have been worse - Jim missed you by a 1, but I dont think he'll let that lie for long!

Cheers
Chris

Hey fellow Taffs!

I made it to the half-way mark today for the holiday challenge! I am thrilled! I didn't get started on it until day 9 of the 30 so I've been trying to catch up. I feel confident now that I can make the 200k! Carla, start thinking about that surprise you're going to send me! Hee, hee..

Congratulations to everyone for all the kms and all the PBs! Awesome!!

And we're gaining on MIT quickly aren't we! Yippee! Look out!

Only 1 more essay and 1 more week of school and then I get 2 whole weeks off! (except for the assignments to do over the holidays...but I'll try not to dwell on that too much...)

Debra

Completed the Holiday Challenge today. Hurrah!
However I realised I didn't have my address in my profile. I've added it now but does anyone know if I'll still receive my pin if it wasn't entered when I completed it?
I think there will be no problem - I expect C2 to order the pins after the challenge is over - they need to know how many they need to send out.

Hiya Taffs,
Sorry about not putting on meters for the team, my computers are both on fizz, something with server soon to be fixed. As for erg also off as new position at work required a little extra time to start with, I should be back as of next weekend to regular time on machine of death.

Little mike has also been off kilter and is back on the machine, he had nasty blisters on both hands to cure and new gloves now should make his 30 min times better.

Happy Birthday CarolMac boy you are young

As for this weekend I did a birthday 49K I thought 1K per year, alas, things started to go downhill after I turned 30 but I finished a little better then when I did the 50K Actually was able to get off erg in one minute, then fall to floor wimpering about growing old. Ohh well.

Hope to have computer fixed by Wed. will post meters then, hope to move up a spot or two, fair warning guys.
Mike

Hey Debra!!! Way to go! I knew you could do it if you just got the bit in your teeth! Glad to hear you're on schedule to finish it! I'm thinking of something really great to send you....better email me your snail mail address!

Martin, take care of them elbows! I'm sorry it's not the handle 'cuz that would be a quick fix.

Mike, 49K in one go. ... you're amazing for someone who just barely started erging!

Jim, great job on finishing the Challenge so far ahead of time. Were you the sort that finished term papers early, too? and file your taxes January 2?

My concert went really, really well. Only 2 notes wrong in the whole 4 pagesin front of a packed house (it's a small hall--probably 150 people--but that's 300 eyes and 300 ears!!!) so I'm really pleased and now I can just relax and enjoy the holidays! I'm psyched to be doing the Holiday Challenge and adding meters to the Taffy Bank!!!

Carla

Added 28,004m to the team total today. That's the most I've ever added in one day. Thsi puts me just 62K to go to complete my Million Metre Charity Challenge. I've just noticed as well that my Holiday Challenge is at 199,301 . If only I was mroe conscious of my Holiday Challenge total, I'd have put in an extra 700m just to finish it. Never mind, plan to put in another 28K tomorrow.

Well done to Debra getting to that 100K. Carla's surprise clearly spurred you on.

Well done James on completing the Holiday Challenge, Heart of a Dragon mate!

I'd also like to thank Mike for slowing down for everyone. He's been tanking the metres over the last 8 weeks and he's given a glimmer of hope to all those near him in the Team Standings (and I don't include myself in that list as he passed me ages ago!).
I rowed about 22,000 in the 1 hr 45 mins. I simply forgot the match was on and got to the gym just in time for the start. I started so I couldn't finish. I was glad to get off when the match finished!!! First 100,000 metre week of the year, and it hasn't done me too much harm.

Congratulations James. I trust you had a wonderful holiday and sorry your arm is not so good.

Bernard
