This weekend marked my 6th week with my rower and I finally reached one of my goals, to get in striking distance of a sub 20 minute 5k. I rowed 20:02 for thje 5k last night. This time bested by time last week by 19 seconds.

I will row the next week for training and on February 12th I WILL break 20 minutes. I can't wait!

I will start working on 10k times next.

For no particular reason I set a goal for last week of 100K. Made that one. On my way to my first million by end of March (started 12/1/05)
Kim

Developed a serious 5k allergy in college and haven't tried one since I graduated in 1998.

But tonight ....... 5,000 meters =20:16.5

Far from an all-time PB, but good enough that it won't rank without Dena's code, so I'm shouting it out here

>>>------> Kinley <------<<<

HW 42 F (yeah, I took a few semesters off)

I recently went to the mid atlantic erg sprints and I took my 2k time from a 7:18 to a 7:09 this was a big thing for me and it boosted my ranking greatly for my crew team (Lake Braddock HS) I just hope i can get a sub7 soon

I recently read an article about training -- I think Xeno recommended it (thanks, Xeno!). The article pointed out that training must be measured against ability, not a fixed number. If I row 5k in 25 minutes everyday, I will plateau at that level of fitness. Instead, the article said I should row at a given heart rate and watch the distance I cover go up and up over time.

Well, I did my first 30 minutes at a set heart rate today. I did a few minutes warm-up before, then did 30 minutes at a heart rate of 150-155. (I can push my heart rate as high as 190 when going for a PB).

Rowing 30 minutes while limiting my effort to keep my heart rate down was tough. It barely felt like a workout at all.

Now here's the punchline: I covered 6653 meters. That beats my previous PB (admittedly set the day I got the rower two months ago) by over 1000 meters!

I'm amazed that what I thought was as hard as I could row just 8 weeks ago now hardly feels like a workout.

I love my Concept2.
