When I got back into erging a few years ago I started out with a high damper setting (8 or 9). I soon experienced lower-back pain, and after noodling around on the C2 forum, changed my damper setting to 4. It made a BIG difference. Now I usually set the damper between 3 and 4, for a DF of around 115 (it varies depending on how recently I've vacuumed the flywheel cage).
