After waking up early to weigh in, missing weight, and then sweating down to make it, I pulled a 7:07.2 later in the afternoon. I had wanted to break 7', but I dont think I was quite ready mentally; my team and I has done absolutely no speedwork. It is still a PB so I am happy with that, at least I didn't regress since the summer. I am still looking to break 7' ASAP and I am sure it will come eventually, with training.

Yea, I know. Good job on the 2k. Too bad to hear about your 2k (thats what I got this saturday, didnt feel good at all, and still dont). Was it consistant, or did you go out too fast. A good warm-up definetly helps with 2k's.

That seven mark i think was harder than the 650 mark, I feel like its that mental brick wall and you really have to just crush it, I broke it as a sophmore at around 145lbs, and it was after pulling about a 701 the previous time before, not only did i break 7, but i got a 657 which was a big improvement over my previous test. I'm actually working on breaking 645 on my next test and 640 by the end of the season. I think the most important tip of advice I was ever given about erging and rowing was from Marty Crotty, the Jr. National Team coach who told me make yourself uncomfortable, get out of your comfort zone and just go crazy. I ended up pulling a 655.1 at the ID camp I was at with him then a 6:48.9 4 days later and I actually felt worse than I did at the ID camp.

I raced this sunday at Ridley... My race was at 1:20 and i got there at 9:30. I was 4 lbs over and i was entering Sr.Men 150lbs.

I didnt eat or drink since the night before. I did about 500 jumpingjacks and a 2k run with all my clothes and i made weight at 149.8 lbs :D

Anyways i had a full recovery and pbed by 4 seconds to get 7:01.0. I came 7th and got my t-shirt so im very happy with the result. It seems i contracted a sore throat... The air in that gym was poison and there were waaaay too many people in a waaay too small a place, so im probably going to get the plague or somthing.

But i saw Rate35 and mPukita. Rate35 was kind enough to give me 7th place by 0.3 seconds(he came 8th behind me with 7:01.3).
Mark, i saw you racing and i dont know if you heard me but i was cheering you for the first 1000m before i had to get ready for my race right after yours. I say you may not have heard me because there was some young women there cheering you on like somone's live depended on it :P

Neb, i didnt see you around, but congradulations on the pb. Schoolboys is a long while away so dont give in to the temptation and peak too early! Good luck with your training!

jbell,
I didn't really fly and die, but my 3rd 500 left something to be desired, it was around 148-149 I believe. However, my last 500 was probably around 142, 143, so not so bad. I also had a decent warmup before, about 10 minutes of erging and some stretching, but when I 2k next at practice, I'll make sure to get some more in.

csarbour,
That gym, as far as I am convinced, is the devil. That was my second time at ridley, and I thought they might have cured the plague but I guess not. Schoolboys, although not my main focus (New York State Champs is!), should be a good time this year. Last year i rowed in a Snr. 4x, with 3 days of practice, and 3 seat had a faulty scull, that led to 4 crabs, one in each 500m. This year, hopefully a 4x will be put together, that will have some more consistent practice (and maybe a gold medal in the Jnr. 4x at States). Now its time to start some speed work.. mmm...

Peter S,
About Marty Crotty, he rowed at my club, West Side RC, and theres always the motto "Don't pull a Marty Crotty!" because one time, in the mid '90s, before nationals, he was playing frisbee or something at the regatta site, and he hurt his ankle, and couldn't race that day for Canisuis. One of my coaches' son was on Marty's team, and at every regatta, he makes sure we watch out.
