Not advisible offcause to do that if you above 25 .
Have you checked the batteries of the HRM?

I'm sorry. You caught me with an exaggeration showing.

"About 200" is imprecise, a bit exaggerated. My point being that an HR above 130 is very easy to accomplish, at least for me. I pretend to assume I am somewhat normal. (Please ignore, ticks, limps, spasms, rowing lying down and other odd motions. ) A month before my recent heart surgery, I had my hr up to 173 briefly, and slowed back down to about 150 (its in my log here at home). At HR 173, I was still about 20 seconds below my max 500m pace that I was formerly able to maintain for about 500m, so I'm sure I could have pushed it higher. Even at that 173, I was not breathing hard, nor as deeply as I was once accustomed to do when doing 500m pieces in the 1:40's. I had a lot of reserve.

186 is pretty high, and a lot closer to 200 than 136. Is that a pace HR, or a max sprint HR ?

A number of other contributors to other posts have commented about long rows during which their HR was in 180's or 190's. My point being that if they can cruise erging at that high an HR, they could also take it higher in a power sprint. And that this fellow should be able to get his heart beating far faster than 130.

Maybe I was overdoing it, and and my HR should have been a lot lower. But in one of my treadmill stress tests, the cardiologist seemed to think my max achieved HR of 178 was in the range of normal, and made no comments about restricting my exercise. Maybe she should have.

If no matter how hard the guy works, his HR stays around 130, that could mean he can't stress his heart, it is in such good condition for his age.

My resting HR is not low, and that may make a difference. Now that I have adequate circulation to my heart, my resting HR may drop, and my max achievable HR may drop too. I hope so.

Its strange - my HR goes up to over 150 very quick - can barely believe that yours does not. Is your husband using his arms while rowing and pulling the chain? Has he tried to touch his handle where its soft while rowing? What happens then? Any increase in HR?

Godd luck.

Hi Teddi,

There was a related discussion earlier:

http://concept2.ipbhost.com/index.php?s ... 479

My suggestion is to have your husband read posting #5 by Mel and follow his instructions on using a piece of rope to get the feeling of rowing connected. Then have hubby check the rankings and see what a good time for 500m would be. Have him make the attempt at doing 500 meters at that pace. He will see what his maximum heart rate is at the end of the 500 meter sprint.

Byron

I gave it a chop again todday and got my HR up to 190 - and not any further during a 30 min work-out. Tried to calm my bumpering heart down again to 100, but had to wait and sit for that - even with the slightst movement it was not moving below 130. Is there a problem with me? I think you hr monitor is not working properly if it does not move up. Do you have the electricity hose connected correctly to the measuring device?
