After mid-Feb. I want to ramp up the mileage on the rower from 44-50k a week to consistantly 50-60k. With that I would like to regain the fitness I have lost over the past year and a half while studying and on my Bachelor of Education degree (while taking care of my 4 little kids and husband and house and...)

Happy New Year all!
Debra

Lose the 4lb I've put on in the past 2 weeks of over-indulgence and no erging.

Too damp in the garage. I tried to do an hour today, but gave up after 30 minutes as I was wheezing too much already.

Well, I couldn't even get to the rower for about 7 days because there were about 6 bin bags in the way, post Christmas. I took 'em all to the tip yesterday and dug the D out. I did 30 minutes earlier, and will probably be doing another 30 minutes later. I do need to get to Argos and get a heater of some sort, but the garage has a high roof so I'll probably just end up heating the top 8 feet, and the bottom 4 feet where I'm sitting will stay cold. I need to install a false ceiling, really but that's part of the master conversion plan... =)

I have a small electric fan heater, I put this on the floor around 20 minutes before my session. This races temp from typical 3 degrees C to 10 degress C (50 Fahrenheit). I then switch off heater, I find 10 degrees just right for training.
Rowing in 3 degrees, just takes an extra top for warm up, but is hard on the throat for hard sessions.
I was tempted to lower ceiling and insulate, but would be to warm in summer. Dampness is probably a greater threat than low temperature though.

On another angle, 20+ years of running in all weathers, I found cold crisp winters a joy to run in, whatever the temperature. !!

Cheers
Steve
