No such thing as Thanksgiving here in Australia but I wish you guys a good day anyway.

It's sunny today with a hot strong northerly wind. Perhaps about 30 Celsius. I'm racing tomorrow in one of the World's largest eight oared races "47th Head of the Yarra". A huge field of boats, some from overseas, for the 8km upstream race.

I'm rowing in 6 seat with a bunch of 40 something year olds (all heavyweights). No problem with balance in the boat as the crew sits the boat up well. My main concern is that all the elite young blokes and girls in the club have pinched all the good high tech carbon fiber boats and left us old farts with a timber eight (at least we get good C2 oars). Something to do with club politics I believe.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis
Yesterday morning (Thanksgiving Day) I was in Corvallis, Oregon visiting my son who rows for OSU. Before we started preparing Thanksgiving dinner, my daughter, my son and myself, were erging together at the "barn" of the OSU crew. Since the use of their boats was off limits to us because of the holiday, we decided to erg together. We all did a 40 minute piece in an unseasonsably cold 34 degrees. I, of course, won by getting done first. Well, it was a 3 way tie, but age and weight, i.e. old and fat, beats young and in shape.

We head back to the barn today to do another 40 minute warm up followed by two 2.5k intervals. Not my usual work out, but we're following my son's coach's training plan for the break. He's a cruel man scheduling such a workout after eating so much the day before.

Can't imagine much of anything better to be thankful about, than being together as a family AND erging at the same time.

Happy Holidays from Burke, VA. I've been rowing for four months now and am trying the 200k holiday challenge.

Andy Gibson

Happy Thanksgiving to all. My favorite holiday, too.

It's been 80 degrees here in San Diego. After taking the boys to Disneyland on Monday and Tuesday, I've spent the last two days with my in-laws in Upland, CA. Good times, and my boys and their cousins got a lot of quality time together.

I'm going to row at least 7K tomorrow morning, and may pull the Model D out to the pool for a row with a view.

I really want to 1x this coming year!
