I like the moon walk analogy... have a funny story about that- one of my friends was walking down a hallway in highschool freshman year... thinking nobody was in the hall except her friend at the other end she decided to try the moonwalk down the hall- she didn't realize she was alone until she heard the chorus of laughter from the upperclassmen in one of the rooms...

Anyway on a rowing note being fifteen isn't exactly a great age to comment on people's tenique or whatever but I do teach my friends what I know. Although once in the gym I was doing a 10k- before I got an erg at home- anyway the guy on the other erg turned to me and commented "You're not supposed to lean foreward or backward like that or use your legs so much (he showed me something about a quarter slide) rowing is supposed to work your arm muscles" Well I said that's not how I learned and got off sooner than I had wanted to.

Other than that I just try to help people who have obvious questions and are staring at the foot straps and not adjusting them even when they're way too small or big-

"elite" attitued... well it's not as bad here as on the tee-shirts- "Real athletes row, the rest just play games" or "God created rowing to keep the truly gifted from ruling the world"

~Sara~

The problem is - where do you start! The sheer amount of bad form you see in the gym, and abysmal personal training to go with it, is simply overwhelming. Have you seen the cycling form in the typical spinning class? Let's not even mention what goes on in the weight room.....

Aaron

Some of those folks probably did get "instruction", just not very good "instruction".

You're a rather personable guy, perhaps you could give the trainers a training session to help them along with being able to help others so you don't have to.

As a Fitness Instructor myself I agree with your statement most instructors do not know the correct techique to use on the Rowing Machine. When I done my training for a Fitness Instructor I wasn't tought any techique's on the rower. Just had to learn myself.

Rickster (Taff Attack)
