I guess that I need a dunking in red ink. It was like being slapped in the face by a wet fish when it struck me, less than an hour after I sent, it that I had screwed up - big time. I was working on cleaning out the garage and mulling over thoughts of pH and pOH - then I remembered what I had said. Your message made it obvious that it was too late to edit it - it had hit the fan already, but I went ahead with th edit anyway. Now, if I could only do something about all these clichés that keep cluttering up my messages, I would be happy - or at least less embarrassed.

Bob S.

Hey, anyone who expresses discomfort at referring to a single-cell unit as a battery is okay in my book! I'll even confess to dusting off my old chemistry book to be sure that my memory wasn't playing tricks on me. At least now I'll remember how to figure out which side of pH 7 is acid and which is alkaline - maybe :)

Bill

In my experiance that kind of thing is redundant and really the biggest effect is has is that it shocks your system and increases the ph in your muscles which is really not a good thing.(this is the kind of thing where you WANT to push harder off the footstops but cant because the enzymes will NOT work in that PH so you get a really crappy finish).

:D

Funny you say that. Unfortunately, those weren't power tens! Those were just my strokes trying to maintain my race plan! My problem, I believe, was a bit too much sprint work (the Rugby Test) on Thursday. The feeling you describe is what I had during the first 1K as I was trying to stay on plan. Once I felt it, I knew it was going to be a struggle just to finish with a reasonably close time. You're right on ... even with 1K to go, I wanted to blast off the stretchers, but there was nothing there to fire.

As I said before ... live and learn.

QUOTE(Mary P. @ Mar 6 2006, 11:28 AM)

whp4, he's an organic chemist. Good one.
In the middle of lab, got to go. Mary P.

Thanks, Mary. I needed some sort of a boost after that boo-boo. I was afraid that a P-chemist might say that it was a typical organischer goof. I used to excuse that sort of gaffe by saying that it was a result of premature senility which was making up for my delayed adolescence. However, it is rather late in the game to use that gag any more. Now I fall back on the pumphead ploy. It is always easy to blame any mistake on the 4 or 5 hours hooked up to that machine.

After that flub, it occurred to me that perhaps I should apply for a new degree: Ph.Duh.

Bob S.

P.S. Apologizes to the Ontario Erg Champs for horning in on your thread. It started out as an honest effort to make a minor correction, but went only down hill from there.

B.S.
