Yes it helps, both in swimming and erging. If I really wanted to do well on the erg, I should get another 10 lbs to reach the maximum for a lightweight. But that would make me even slower at running!

Life is full of compromises!

FAQ

It makes sense to me that running would be faster than erging for someone who has trained in a similar way for both sports, but I'm not sure if that's true for me. I haven't done any short running races in the last 6 years so I can't compare recent erg times to how I used to run. Now I'm thinking that they would be pretty close although back then my running times would have been about 2 minutes faster for a 5k or 10k. I've done 10 running marathons in the past with my fastest being 3:06 and I broke 3 hours on the erg a few months ago. So for me, I'm thinking that the longer the distance the more advantage I have for speed on the erg. I'm not sure if that's because erging doesn't jar the joints as much or that on the erg it is easier to monitor a steady pace and heart rate?

As for me, these are my recorded runnig/erging times (2005/2006-times)
10k: 38:12 erg, 39:07 running
HM: 1:22:56 erg, 1:32:55 running
FM (edited): 3:04:46 erg, 3:30:05 running
Feel I have rather a good potential to better my 10k and FM on the erg, if I want to get better running times, I should quite change my training schedule....

Maybe 3:20 is a possibility. What do you think you are capable of?
They are "OBs", this is only times, because I've just made one erging and one running marathon.
I'm almost certain I'll make a sub 3 during the marathon challenge in april.
I feel I could have made something better in thge running marathon, as it was raining, and VERY cold and windy during my marathon (as I dindn't sweat enough, I had 3 long "pee-stops").
I will never know what I will be capable to do doing a proper running-marathon training, but with the actual experience and under similiar training conditions I would be aiming about 3:15 8)
Anyway, thanx for the confidence.

Next running marathon possibility october 8th, Maratón del Mediterráneo in Castelldefels, start and arrival at the Canal Olímpico, CEU rem's rowing home! Onluy problem is, it's juste one mont after Princeton World Masters, so I will not have done ANY specific long distance running training. Still not sure if I will participate...
