Just did the first 2k test of the season and pulled a PB of 7:27.9. Not bad considering that there was a rating cap of 28 for the first 1k too! Definitely makes for a nice improvement over the old 7:32.2 I've been staring at for the last year. I'm very happy to finally be under 7:30.
Following the weight loss trend I've lost about 20 lbs since the start of school back in the fall. Not too bad, altho all my favorite rowing shirts are getting too baggy! Oh well, there are worse problems to have I suppose.
Probably never going to hit lightweight, but it's nice to get rid of the excess fat. Definitely makes doing stairs a lot more pleasant, that's for sure.

Heather Johnson
F20 153lbs 5'7"
2k 7:27.9 20min 5057 30min 7481 100k 9:07:27.7

So, I'm not proud of myself that I've not managed to erg regularly the past few weeks (that darn school thing keeps getting in the way), but I am happy to announce that I dropped 3 and a half minutes from my best 10k time. Yay me. I was going for sub-50 min, since my first recorded attempt was 52:17, and with regular power 10s and a speedy person on the erg next to me to provide competition I managed 48:37!
Next goal: hitting the 50th percentile for my age group in the rankings on this board (approx. 45:35).

-Liz

Good for you, Liz! a 3 minute drop in a 10K is tremendous!
Use the pace calculator to figure out what pace you have to hold to hit your goal of 45:35, compare it to the pace you just did, and use the avg. pace setting on the monitor to help you. It really helps to see your average pace as you go, rather than just the time you've used up--don't know if you've used the average pace setting before. It made a big difference to me when I discovered it.

Did a 6k yesterday afternoon and pulled a 23:50.5. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy about it, especially considering that I managed that with doing a killer AT workout that morning with the team.
Gradually working my way down to that 23min goal

Heather Johnson
F20 152 lbs 5'7"
2k 7:27.4 20min 5057 6k 23:50.5 30min 7481 100k 9:07:27.7

Carla,
eek...a 2:16 split...I'll work on consistently getting 2:20 first.
Thanks for the reminder about the pace calculator. I spent a semester on the novice crew team at Cornell, so I know my way around the display. I tend to use the meter countdown feature with time/500 and projected finish time, but as I also tend to row long pieces, I usually ignore the display and look around the gym to entertain myself. Occasionally, I race against the person next to me (without them knowing).
I'm making my way back to the erg today in an attempt to work out all the kinks in my muscles from my navy fitness test (pushups, situps, run) and an intramural hockey game yesterday. Hopefully, I'll manage to drop some more time on the 10k!
-Liz

FINALLY!!!!!
I have been trying to beat my best 10K time for months now. (Yes, months!) For some unknown reason, tonight I felt "on". Perhaps it was realizing that 2:34 is Harly's slow 10K pace!
Tonight I managed 49:45.6. I even took a brief 30 second water stop.
On 8/24/04 I did it in 50:51.6. Needless to say, I'm quite happy. A little shaky, but happy.

Couldn't wait until the morning to post this one!
Sue
