Paul, I am using V 4.1 (build115) and still no luck. I'm wondering if I have the interface connected to the correct jack in the computer? I have no idea. I know one thing, I have spent a lot of time on this.

Thanks for your attention to this problem. Yes, Just Row works fine (when I'm NOT on the internet, DOES NOT work when I'm on the internet) and secondly, when I enter erow...without being on the internet 1st, I DON'T get any messages that it cannot find my PM2+. However, when I am on the internet FIRST, then I DO get the message that it CANNOT locate my PM2+. Occasionally when I am patiently waiting for a race, I get a message that there is not enough buffer. It requests that I exit any chat programs (which I am not on) . I had a thought...could GO BACK be interferring in some way, since GO BACK is constantly working. Maybe I'll try disabling GO BACK and see what happens. What do you think? I feel bad wasting erggers' time waiting for a race with me. I'm goinna lose my credibility
Thanks again! Ron

Go Back is a program that allows you to set your computer at a time somewhere in the past. That way if you messed up settings with a newly downloaded program, you could use GO BACK and the computer would reboot in a state when it was working fine. It also means that your computer constantly has to be memorizing and keeping track of past configurations on a minute to minute basis.

Is it possible that the batteries are low, even though on the monitor they do not appear low?

When you first turn on the monitor, "LO ba" will appear in the upper left hand corner. But, this only happens when the batteries are so low that they are on the verge of failure.

I seem to remember once before a marathon on e-row, a low battery warning came up on my screen.

Paul Flack

Bill, I am not sure how to tell if I am connected by Proxy server. I may be. Could you tell me how to tell and how to D/C it. Thank you....I am beginning to lose hope and may have to buy a new computer just for the erg. If so, would you recommend a laptop for rowing. I could then use it for other things. The erg is in the basement. Thanks. Ron

using a new laptop will bring extra problems with e-row, you will need a usb-serial convertor as most laptops don't have serial ports, only usb ports.

if it's just for e-row just use a low spec old pc, it doesn't need a fast pc for e-row

There are a few ways to tell if you're using a Proxy Sever.

In IE, tools\Internet Options\Connections\LAN Settings\ Proxy server is checked at the bottom.

Or go to a Command Prompt; Start\Run\ cmd.exe
and enter netstat -a (output looks something like below)
If you see a :8080, you may be connected to a Proxy.

C:\>netstat -a

Active Connections

Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP usga-goodri-h:epmap usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:microsoft-ds usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:5101 usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:1033 usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:1034 usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:5180 usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:5180 usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:netbios-ssn usga-goodri-h:0 LISTENING
TCP usga-goodri-h:1039 cs1.msg.dcn.yahoo.com:5050 ESTABLISHED
TCP usga-goodri-h:1106 oam-m13a.blue.aol.com:5190 ESTABLISHED
TCP usga-goodri-h:1274 205.188.9.76:5190 ESTABLISHED
UDP usga-goodri-h:microsoft-ds *:*

If you go or work at a place that uses a Microsoft ISA server, your settings can be changed when you connect to the network.

I'm going out and get a new RS232 adapter....I'm goinna try the 9 pin type this time and see if that connection works. I also may try a shorter cord to that adapter from the PS2+ monitor....maybe the length of the cable causes some loss of signal strength. Anyhow, I thank all of you for your interest and assistance. When I get this all working I'm goinna have a big Regatta on line and serve lot of healthy foods and spirits! Thank you.
