1k 3:22.1, 33SPM (previous 3:23.3). However, I had a sub 3:20 in the bag with 300m to go (so i thought). I'm pretty new to erging, so I guess I've got A LOT to learn. How the f*&$ can I blow up with only 300 to go? UGH!!! I'm spent.<br><br>On a positive note, that's 3 PR's in 4 days. I'm going to grab some brew and focus on the positives.

Well done Sockman ...there is no disgrace in hitting the wall with 300m to go, I think a lot of these lessons are learnt the hard way as I can attest to. I have learnt that 1k is about pacing almost but not quite as much as a 2k ... it definitely has a significant aerobic component which means you need to go out hard then settle into a pace you can hanble with difficulty but that will get u to the end.<br><br>As we usually are never 100% sure of what we are truely capable of till that last 200 - 150m you might find a bit of a sprint there.... especially for those of us still learning and seeking our potential.<br><br>ps: Well done on the 3 PB's now back to work u go

A new 10k PB today and it was a long time due. 37:13.6<br><br>First time under 37:25 since december! I did 37:25 around the time I did 1:26.9 for 500 this summer. After that I have done only distance work. <br><br>After 1-2 months I tried a 500 again and did 1:24.9 and so I must be better at 10k I thought. Today, a week after I got proof. <br><br>Not very much improvement though it seems but it feels good to finally improve on my 10k record! They are so much more painful than a 500m sprint, that's why it's so hard to really push yourself to you limit. Even now, I'm quite sure 37:10 would have been possible for me. =/ What a weakling I am I feel Last 500m was 7 sec under average split and I was feeling steady at 320w (1:43) when reaching finish. <br><br>Still I am very content with the result as well as my effort. I will give the erg a rest now and solely do on water stuff for a while. <br><br>Cheers!

Despite the heat I felt good enough this morning to have a crack at my marathon. OOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHH!<br><br>First hour in 1:52.4, 25 spm to get myself a bit of head start, and then held 1:54 for 1012 strokes before seeing a 1:55 . Had my first drink at 30k gone with an average of 1:53.3.<br>Hit the bloody wall at 36k gone and took the opportunity to have another drink, put my grunting face on and get back to it. passed 40k with a 1:53.8 average pulling 1:55's, and knew that if i didn't pull my act together I wouldn't be getting my target today and I would have to do it again! 2k to go managed to drop to 1:53's at 26 spm, almost sprinting. 720m to go and the average flicked to 1:53.7 and then back to 1:53.8, it was doable. Dropped to 1:50 and then 1:46 with 300m to go, 1:42 200m to go, 1:36 last 100, last stroke 1:29 ... Average 1:53.6 <br><br>42,195m - 2:39:50.9, 25 spm, a p.b by 4 minutes and 0.9 seconds!<br><br>Not the hardest I've done but it's right up there! Think I should have taken a few more drink stops, only a little butt pain and quite an achey back but don't feel too bad now, it was getting bloody hot by the time I finished!

So pleased with this I need to tell the world......<br><br>60 minute upped from 15414 to 16210 whoopee.<br><br><br>Have to thank Ranger for this....lots of advice on slower more powerful erging. Completed this at 24 spm.<br><br>Trouble now is my 30' looks a bit soft <br><br>Paul<br><br>

Congrats on the excellent marathon time Ash. I am still trying t get my 10km splits into the sub 1:55 range !!<br>We had a FM day down here in NZ on 31 July. About 35 individuals took part around the country and quite a few teams as well. If you check out the FM rankings you will see that 9 of the best 27 times are currently NZL entries but I suspect this is a temporary situation.<br>The 2:30:51 by Stephen Sutherland is the best ranked time for the last 4 seasons and only 2mins off Glen Goodmans WR of 2:28:54 set in 2000.<br>Cheers from downunder.<br>

Hello All,<br><br>I have lurked but never posted to this discussion group. So I thought I would overcome my shyness and share my new 2K PB the Sunday before last: 6:49.7. I am a heavyweight male 38 years old.<br><br>So here's the story. I knew I was going to test, but did not feel entirely right (not uncommon before a test, so I chose to test anyway). I warmed up for about 15 minutes, then I thought, "gee, what if I lose my lunch on my wife's carpet?" I was too wound up about the test to go hunting for a bucket and instead grabbed a puppy-training pad from the pack my wife stored near my erg. I spread the NEW, UNUSED pad on the floor and thought its absorbency and large target were ideal for its potential purpose.<br><br>I row the test in PB time (Yee Haa!) and without tossing. I did, however, pass out when I was done and fell face first on the puppy-pad. The wife found me a few seconds later as I was waking up, heaving in the pad like a 10 year old girl at a Lance Bass concert. She yelped (maybe a short scream, maybe a shrill gasp; no, it was a yelp) when she concluded that I had developed a new fetish. Because I was still out of breath, it was a good three minutes before I could actually explain why I was face first in the pad whafting up all the air in its vicinity.<br><br>The moral: If you're gonna use a puppy pad for an erg test, use it before your wife finds you--or something like that.<br><br>Take care,<br>Will

No reason to _race_ an hour at 24 spm. Try 26 spm, or even 28, keeping some of your habitual stroking power in reserve. You might find that your distance times will improve even further. <br><br>ranger

This isn't a rowing PB, but as I am "babying" a sore Achilles tendon, I've been biking. We did a canoe trip today, putting in in Newburyport, MA, and paddling with the current upstream to Rock Bridbge (Haverhill). I was the designated biker (had to go back to Newburyport for the car). I know it's more downhill than up, but I was still pretty psyched to have done 9.07 miles in 30:34, with an average speed of 17.7 mph. <br><br>

HM 1:30:03,0 ( 2:08,1 / 500 ) , was 1:30:51,5 ( 2:09,2 / 500 ).<br><br>Lost about 10 secs from 12 to 13 km. <br><br>Next time sub 90 min ? !
