Hi, I'm new to this posting/website as I'm finally able to afford an erg (yay) and wondered if anyone had a picture of a Model B they could send me. I can't remember what we had in college...during those years I hated to erg. If you do, please email it to kellyjean21@hotmail.com. Thanks. Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Here is a picture of the model B. It's a good machine.

http://www.concept2.com/05/rower/servic ... ice.asp

Thanks John,
What would you consider to be a good price for one? (The one I'm considering is within driving distance and is posted in the classifieds in Eugene, OR).

I was planning to save for a brand new one, but the price here seems too good. Thanks for your advice
Kelly

The last model B I purchased, I paid $200. (several years ago, so certainly the price does not have to have increased) It was/is in mint condition and I subsequently upgraded the Monitor and installed the speed ring. I can't really say what I would be willing to sell it for, basically "It's not for sale." (Unless someone wants to get completely ridiculous, and offer an outrageous amount)

Kelly, many times an Erg may be in the possession of a person that is simply not using it any more but recognizes that it is a very useful piece of equipment. If they were a rower, they are probably more interested in having it be put to use than the money they will get for it. When you decide what you are going to do, let us know what the total deal is, and there may be even more suggestions on how you are making out. Also, Universities with rowing programs often sell off machines as they upgrade, so you may check with UO and OSU.

Hi Kelly,

You're quite welcome. On Ebay the model B's go for $3-400. That's with the old seat and the pm1. You'll probably want a newer seat and the pm2 or pm2+, the latter which are not being sold any more. So if you can find one with a pm2 that's a plus.

It is possible to constuct a monitor "arm" to extend out from the housing, and a speed ring is quite easy to make. This will bring the resistance in the same range as the C and D.

I figure my model B is worth around $550, the same as a C, however it has a lot of upgrades, in top condition. If you can get one for 300 or preferably less in good condition then that's a good price.

I typically see prices in the $300-450 for model Bs in excellent condition. I also see Model Cs going for $450-600. Occasionally, I will see something much lower than this too. In most cases, it's cheaper than Ebay prices. If you live in a major metro area - particularly in the Northeast - it might be a good place to check.
Well I'm new here, but I have recently gone through the used buying process, or rather "trying" process. From what I've seen on ebay, people spend way too much. It's best if you find one within driving distance (as you said you have) via local classifieds. If you have an active area on craigs list then it is as good/better than a local paper.

From my experience, by the time you add the upgrades (assuming you want internet connectivity, etc) in most cases I found (for model Cs) it was only slightly less money than buying a new model D. I normally don't buy such things new as second had are just as good, but in this case I got fed up trying to get the best price after several inquiries the items were sold before I could see the rower in person.

Since that time though, I have seen a few model D advertised at good prices at

http://www.row2k.com/classifieds/classifieds.pl

Best of luck in your search

edit - just in case you do want to use rowpro or erow or PC/internet connectivity, you need a PM (Performance Monitor) II+ or PM3.

To upgrade an erg without either of these PMs, the PMII+ is $180 and the PM3 is $185 direct from concept 2.

Well I am not interested in hooking up the internet or anything. I rowed in college and just miss the opportunity to hop on and bust out a 5k or power 20s. So basically, just for the exercise. I'd like to stay away from being competitive for a little bit. So I think the B model will be good for me.

Question: Is there a way to add legs on to the flywheel so that it can be stood on end the way the C models can?

Thanks, Kelly

What do you mean stored on end, for storage?

I have both a B and a C, and think the C doesn't stand up that way either.

There are some wheels for the B to make it easier to move around, but the leg is not in the right place to allow the same "tilt up" as the C or D.

Check ebay for prices. Be sure to click on the "show completed items" box on the left so you see the actual price of recently sold ergs. Also, pay close attention to the shipping price, which can be quite high.

I ended up getting a model C on ebay from a local guy who I could pick it up from. Also keep in mind that the resale value of these things is quite high. When I realized that I could sell it for nearly what I paid if I got bored with the erg, I felt much better shelling out several hundred dollars to buy one. Now I can't imagine life without it
