New PB 6k!<br /><span style='font-size:15pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'> 22.52.0</span></span><br />That was the last one for the season. Went from 23.42 to 22.52 during the course of this season. Cant wait for spring!

I managed to work in another new event (for me that is) today. This time it was a 6k, which leaves only a 5k to go to complete the set that I am interested in - all ranking times and distances except the marathon and half marathon. Rather than trying to sandwich it in between workout pieces, I used the in lieu technique. The Monday workout calls for two 30' pieces. I figured that based on a sub 45' 10k yesterday, I should be able to do a sub 27:30 for the 6k, so I did a 6k in lieu of the first 30' piece. The result was 26:47.2, which doesn't look like much on this board, but is respectable enough in the 80+ category. The next piece at 30’ did not seem to suffer from the trial. It was still better than all but a couple of my recent 30’ pieces.<br /><br />Data on the 6k:<br />2:15.6 @ 24spm<br />2:14.7 24<br />2:13.2 24<br />2:12.7 24<br />2:11.3 24<br /><br />The only problem was getting verification. I got the notice that the verification was done, i.e. “Your result has been successfully updated.” But the V did not show up in my logbook. All previous verifications had worked well – once I caught on to the fact that each piece had its own number. First 6k today so I guess you could say its a PR. 23:12.6... I've been rowing for about 4 weeks on my college's novice team. Also, 2 weeks ago I rowed a PR of 1:35.4 in the 500 after a 1:38.7 in the first week on the team. I can't wait to see where these times go after I get in some solid training over a good period of time.

I think it is more meaningful to look at the improvement in terms of reducing the average 500m pace from 1:55.1 to 1:54.4 across the whole 30 minutes, rather than how many extra metres are covered.<br /><br />I still have to go a bit further to catch JohnnyBike on the 30:00, (only another 33m). We have a bit of a competition going between us. Like John, I am also based in Leeds, although to date we have not actually met. I train at the big Virgin gym just off Kirkstall Road, and they have a V-Row class on Saturday mornings which always has more girls than boys, (and they usually beat us when we race).<br /><br />Let us know when you get back to the northern hemisphere so that you can meet up with some of the other Leeds ergers...

Mark,<br /><br />A 25 second improvement is not considered "slowly but surely". That is a significant gain, and you are to be congratulated for it. <br /><br />I agree with you, anyone can do it. You just have to want it to happen enough.<br /><br />Conceive, believe, achieve...
