First Half Marathon 1:27:57.7

My goal pace was 2:04, which was fine until about 18k. Ended up at 2:05.1. I had to stop and stand up to stretch a bit.

My heartrate peaked at 150 at about 15k, then it stayed in the low 140s. Plenty of capacity left there. I didn't see the heart rate fatigue upward drift being the limiting factor.

I used to hate long swims when I competed, but I understood the benefits. (I was a sprinter and polo player). I sure the same thing applies here, but I don't have a coach on deck timing every lap and pushing me. Instead I've got this heartless PM3 staring at me, along with a RowPro rower looking at me like I'm nuts. (My imagination, sorry).

The only real problem with this is what the next distance goal is. There's not a 3/4 marathon is there. It has to be a full marathon. At least there's a mug for that. (And don't even suggest the 100k. That's what the work week is for. Not one day. No way.)
There, now I've done a sub 1:25 500m this year as well. And at a bodyweight of only 72.9 kg! I tangented my PB with 1:24.9 today. I couldn't have it that I only pulled 1:25.1 a few days ago. I took a few pictures as well with my mobile.

At the end I was pulling 1:27s this time (instead of 1:29s) so i had a lot of power left, but I was only at 1:24.2 average after 350 meters instead of 1:24.0 like last time. I'm interested in trying to hold 1:23s initially and see how I stack up after that. Perhaps in a few days.
Well, for the 500m, the average pace is the easiest to calculate, it's just the finishing time

500m PB of 1:36.2. Today was a complete junk day. Not wanting to do my usual 10k, i decided to do some sprints, that failed. Then decided to go back to a 10k, that failed again. In the end I just decided to throw in a 500m test, never having done one before, and a 5700m cooldown.

Last night, almost on a whim, I decided to try my first half marathon. Moved the erg into the TV room, popped "Pirates of the Carribean" into the DVD player, grabed a couple water bottles and granola bars and started pulling at about 10:20PM.

My time was terrible - about 1h 48m. I had to guess part of it because my first break lasted more than 4 minutes and the PM turned off, so I estimated the time based on the distance, a pace of about 2:10, and a 5 minute break.

My time was bad, I slept poorly and I'm sore today, but I'm quite happy. This AM I weighed 1.5lbs less than my previous lowest weight.

One thing seemed odd. I drank a total of about 50oz of water last night. Based on my normal workouts, I'd think that would be about the amount that I'd sweat out, but I found myself getting up frequently last night to pee (about 4 times). Could it be that the HM built up a lot of waste in my system and my kidneys were just flushing it all away?

Dave
Lastly, the body can only use about 1 cup of water per hour -- anything over that (give or take depending on your body) gets washed out.

Mike

2k - 7:42

That beats my 2k by 11 seconds, although I think I could have beaten it by more if I had been smart about pacing. Am fairly good about being patient with results in general, but this one does seem pretty freakin' humble considering I've been at this 2 months, am in my prime years physically etc etc. Will try and rip some kick times in the next couple of months to make up for it

Not quite one month to the day after getting my C2.

Got 1:47.2 for 500m; 7.6 seconds better than my last pr.
38 spm, damper ~7. Couldn't get under 1:55 with a lower damper setting.
