If you don't do the hard work you don't get the fast time. (I made this one up myself I think)

JimR

Row hard... listen harder... try hardest.

My friend and I were racing in a double in Head of the Fish and I decided that I was going to make inspirational poggies. I cut the poggies out of polarfleece and sewed tehm together... they came out looking interresting. Anyways I took a permenant marker and wrote on them Life's shrot... row hard" but I mixed up what one went where. (there were two pairs) and I also tried to write "Kick Butt!" but when we tried to put them on the oars they said "Butt! Kick, Hard row!" and "Butt! Kick, Life's short!" They worked though because we won our race!

We also wrote "row harder" on the back of my shirt and other little memos on the pogies like "look up" or "back spalsh" At Crash-B's I wrote "smile, you're at CRASH-B's on a sign and held it up while she erged... little "motivational" memos like that are great because they help distract your mind from the fact that you're ergign or in pain or can't breathe.

Also tell yourself that you CAN do it and it helps a lot, your subcouscience believes what you tell it.

"row til you die, then power 10!"

I think the first two are pertinent to crew.

Nihil sine labore
or
Nothing without work

Nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiae
or
There is no one great ability without a mixture of madness

Amor vincit omnia
or
love conquers all
