Hi all

Kinda obvious from the title, but if you are going for, say, a 2k or 6k pb, do you take a day or two off before to recover from training? Stock up on carbs? All that?

I am rowing 50k per week right now (all this complicated by trying to beat 191k for the month) and keen to break my 6:44 2k time - from how my training is going, I think 6:40 is do-able, but boy am I knackered . . .

Gilesyb

I was gonna ask the same thing. I'm going to try and get a pb 2k this sunday @ strong Island sprints. I think 1 day rest should be sufficient, and do an easy workout 2 days before. I'm gonna do 3x10 or so today.

I think everyone is different but common sense tells you to rest the day (or 2) before. I know some like to do some race starts the day before or even 2-4 500's at race pace etc. You know your body best so are in the best position to make a judgement.

Personally I have 1 days rest but Ill use any excuse not to train .

I used to be addicted to trying PB's, would be attempting twice a week, and failing half of htem (e.g. stopping half way through or so). Then when I discovered Pete Plans and the Wolverine plans, I find myself with the opposite dilemma - the training is now much more fun, and just as good a way to monitor the progress. Comparing how far I am pulling on a Level 4, or, for example, seeing how far I go for 40 mins at <150HR (10087m since you ask) is a kind of PB, but more pleasant to do.

So I now fear the lactic pain of the true record. Definitely need a rest

Cheers

Giles

I had some not as good as expected running races after taking days off.

Tapering down usually works well for me though.

Well, today I did 3x10min on the slides with my friend. My avg was 156.3, so I wasnt stressing myslef, but it was a good workout. I think I'm taking tomorrow off so I can rest for my 2k.
