Wish List For The Pm4

Since it is not quite Christmas yet (Pacific Standard Time) there is still time for a note to Santa.

I have had a PM3 on my model B for almost three months now and have been very pleased with the many new features that were not on the old PM(1). However, I think that there is a potential for many more improvements so I have started this thread to see what ideas others have. If this is redundant, I apologize ahead of time. I admit that I did not do a thorough “literature search” and that this topic may have been covered before.

My own wishes include having an expanded list of workout options. As far as I can tell, it is now limited to 15 different workouts – five each in the three categories, Standard, Custom, and Favorites and it is awkward to add a new one, i.e. it has to be added to Favorites and one of the favorites has to have been previously transferred to Custom – replacing one of the Custom list. Why not have just one list with a scroll function to the whole list which could be extended for much more than 15 items? Another option, still using a scroll function, would be to have three categories: Distances, Times, and Intervals, each with its own list. This is what I would consider to be the optimal arrangement for my own uses.

Another place for improvement is accessing the archives. If someone wants to check out old 2k times, it is necessary to go through three steps, all of which take a long time to appear on the screen. It would certainly be nice if this process were speeded up.

I also had problems with setting up intervals, but I have done it only once and I think that I still have a learning process to go through, so I shouldn’t be making any suggestions at this time.

I have one puzzle with the record. I installed the PM3 on September 29, 2005, and got the first million meters recorded on my log card on December 23, 2005. However, I checked the record today and the logcard reported Lifetime meters as 1,016,954, but in the summary below it reported total meters as 1,012,237. Why is there a difference? Of course, I had a lot of meters on that erg and others long before the card started logging them, but there is no way for the PM3 to know that. I considered that the difference might represent some meters that were done on other machines, where I used the logcard, but I have done considerably more that the difference (4,717m); it should be more like about 12,000.

Bob S.
That new version should solve those struggles.

In the gym we had one machine with V61 and one with V82. My friend Gordon currently has a badly screwed up logcard from the V61 machine.

It takes about 20mins to download the firmware, hook up the PM3 and run the firmware loader.

(1) Have the time start when the rower starts, instead of starting on it's own;

(2) Include an optional "beep" with 5 seconds to go in the rest interval, to help avoid missing starts;

(3) A optional background light and/or reflective numbers for rowing in low light levels.

(4) Instantaneous display of flywheel rpm range for each stroke;

(5) Cumulative display of flywheel rpm range deviation from the mean;

(6) An even countdown of meters, as occurred with the pm2;

(7) Use the pm2 instant and nice looking display.

That is probably it. I just started using set up intervals recently, but I do row during the "rests" and difference lookss to be in the ballpark.

regards,

Bob S.
What I would most like to see in an improved monitor would be the ability to control what is displayed on the monitor. I would like to able to select Watts for the upper portion and Pace for the lower portion instead of average watts or avg watts/interval.

I would also like control over the time out interval.
