hi,<br /><br />This question is for the guys... its embarassing<br /><br />I try to get on the rowing machine now and again. My problem is that often when I am rowing, when I get to the 'finish', sometimes my nuts get kind of squeezed between my legs. Its really painful.<br /><br />Tucking them up above the tops of my legs is weird, and trying to get them to stay low squeezes them more... Some strokes it happens, and they get squeezed bad. Others it is totally fine, no squeezing. Most of the times, they rub on each other... very bad feeling.<br /><br />I said it was embarassing.<br /><br />It makes me unable to do the rowing machine for very long. And I want to be able to go for 20+ minutes without discomfort.<br /><br />Any suggestions? I see some folks wearing spandex. Does this help?<br /><br />thanks.<br />

Yes, the right kit does help. Try a proper pair of rowing trou from somewhere like <a href='http://www.jlracing.com/trou.shtml' target='_blank'>JL Rowing</a>, these will hold the berries out of the way of the juicer. It's also customary to spend a little time during the warm-up getting everything adjusted (discreetly, in public settings) -- nothing worse than hearing the Nutcracker Suite all the way through a tough piece.

I find that spandex dont help, i find that they just naturally settle into a non hurting position. Ya so try sitting differently .

Have you tried padded cyclist's shorts?<br /><br />Although I find I'm most comfortable in the £25 all-in-one that I got from the C2 UK website shop.

An All In One (AIO) works best. The 'vest' being connected to the shorts has the effect of hoisting your tackle upwards. As Dougie says cycling shorts are good but go for the 'bib' type to get the same effect.

Calvin Klein "ribbed" boxer briefs work well. They are somewhat elastic and keep everything pretty well in place.

Certainly nothing to be embarassed about! <br /><br />Experiment with different shorts. Also experiment scooting forward and backward on the seat. I find sitting a little farther forward gives me more freedom of movement and keeps the equipment happy.<br /><br />I have the concept2 poly rowing shorts, awful for rowing. But, actually quite good as underpants in cold weather hiking/skiing, the pad keeps my bum warm.<br /><br />Old cycling shorts work quite well for me, my cycling bibs are not so so comfortable. However, my tried and true gym shorts are what I usually use, they are just thin nylon running shorts with a stretchy liner. Tucking my shirt in sometimes helps if the waist band is irritating me.<br /><br />Any additional links to sites with proper rowing bibs? I have used cycling bibs forever and they are vastly superior to shorts. There must be a reason all the competitive rowers use bibs?
