Speaking of the Wolverine...

Mike Caviston just sorta disappeared... does he ever post anymore? He went above and beyond the call of duty with his posts back in the day...

A shame.

D

Oh, I’m still around. Just haven’t had anything to say. I don’t see the need to repeat myself. I continue to stand behind the comments I’ve made in the past regarding the WP and training in general. These can still be found in the archives if any newcomers care to search using “Wolverine Plan” as key words.

I do have plenty of observations and recommendations regarding training that have continued to evolve even since I was last active on the forum. I’ve also added a variety of new twists and variations to the original WP. But it has been my experience that most people just aren’t that interested, and I have been keeping in touch with the few dedicated followers using personal communications. Also, in the past I’ve been somewhat of a lightning rod for some of the more fanatical individuals on the forum, and my threads have been hijacked beyond their original topics.

Still, I’m always fascinated by all topics related to training and performance. I have about three weeks left to teach during the current semester, and when I have a bit more time I’ll probably test the waters again.

Mike Caviston
Hey Mike,

I for one have been using your WP for about six months now with great success. I must admit - the progressions border on genius. I have yet to be bored while on your plan.

I for one would love to hear about the updated WP.

Good to have you back and thanks for sharing your plan with us.

D

P.S. Does this mean you check your PM box regularly ? - I've got some questions I'd love to ask you, if you're not too busy, that is.

I too would like an update. I've been on it since June. My questions relate on how to progress with L4 workouts. I've done 70', alternating with 176-180, and have bumped up to 180-184. I just added 2x40'. I guess I also would question my intensity. When would you increase the interval intensity (i.e. from 180 to 184) versus increasing the reference pace?

I converted the original plan to a word document. E-mail me and I'll send it to you.

Regards,

Also, I've saved to my computer a series of postings that Thomas collected of Mike Caviston's answers to Wolverine questions. Unfortunately I don't know how to link to it, but I could email it to anyone interested. I could also copy and paste it to a post, but it is very, very long.

Rick

If you go to this discussion thread and look down the postings you will find a huge e:mail where I posted a fairly complete recap of the Wolverine Plan info in the forum (from the efforts of others in the forum).

http://concept2.ipbhost.com/index.php?s ... ine

Futher down in the topic are links to this info that still work.

JimR

The short answer is that if you are in reasonable shape and your original 2K reference pace was in fact a PB quality test then you can expect to go all the way to the 200+ workouts.

I don't think you will get good results with adjusting your reference pace and starting over, that would mean you don't progress into the higher LVL4 progressions.

JimR

That makes a lot of sense. There was one mention of changing the reference pace if you kept exceeding the distance on the next fastest pace, I just wasn't sure how to balance this comment with the progressions.

I'm also a Wolverine admirer, and it has worked for me, but I have to agree with DIESEL that following the WP for a longer period may get a bit boring. I would love to see the updated version.
I am currently training for a (running) marathon until end of november, than I have to discuss with my mates if we start with WP.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, Mr. Caviston!
