Wrist Pain
Training
I've been rowing for about a month now...still learning a lot! My comment is; When rowing, approximatly 15 min. into it, my left hand starts to go numb...just my left. Has anyone experienced this? If you have; what was the cure? Any help would be MUCH appreciated because I really love to row.

Zac

I have similar problems, usually around 15-20 minutes in. My right wrist starts to get weak, and sometimes my left hand and left foot go numbish. Not severely, but I do notice it.

I'm not a rowing expert, nor do I know exactly what your problem is, but I can give some advice.

I'd first check and make sure you are keeping your wrists flat throughout each stroke. If your wrists bend up or down, your target (point where your arms pull into) is probably too high or too low. The general "proper target" is the bottom of the ribcage.

You can also stress your wrists by gripping the handle too tightly. Loosen up your grip, and let your wrists stay straight (like an extension of your forearm). You can do this by "pointing" toward the center of the handle as you pull in. This will help keep your wrists from bending left and right (depending on which wrist).

I'm just assuming this is on an erg. If it's on water, there could be many more reasons for wrist pain. Give me some more info and I can give you a better guess.

Maybe your suggestions will help so I'll give them a try.

Thanks,
Zac
