Training
Alrite lads and/or lassies,
I have just finished my first season of rowing. The whole experiance was great from barley scraping into the 2 seat of the 2nd novice VIII right up to just missing out in a seat race for our Henely IV+.However all good things come to an end. This happened a couple of weeks ago after national champs, which leads me to my predicament.I have never rowed before so I am not entirely sure on how to train for the preseason period. My biggest worry is peaking too early.Since the last race was only two weeks ago I could easily find myself peaking in september and messing up my whole season.
My plan is to do alot of low intensity work on the ergo and bike with a 6k ergo test each month.Last seasons pb for 6k was 20:10 so I hope to beat that in december and then get it down to 19.45 by the end of march by which stage the focus will have shifted to 2ks.I also want to bulk up my upper body and hopefully get my weight up four kilos to 86/87kg by doing a fair bit of heavy weights.I want to be up to about 10/12 sessions a week in 3 weeks time.
So what do you guys think? Any advice would be appriciated

Anthony
Training
A 20:10 6k? Maybe 5k

What I would recommend is just a steady diet of 10ks 5 times a week, or 4 times a week with your biking. Check out the thread "Summer Training" for Jon Barry's training log from the year 2000. He applied alot of 10ks over a couple months, which would be your off season and had a great leap of improvement. You could throw in weights in the afternoon with erging in the morning, what i have been doing personally. Just keep going on the longer pieces and lifting, maybe for a couple months and then the 6 weeks before or so your peak racing season, hop on an interactive program from the concept 2 site to build for your 2k.
