Painful For Men?

Am I the only man that experiences discomfort after rowing a while? To me, the foot rests are close enough together that my "private parts" get squeezed when I row. I believe I have good technique, wear supporting garments, but still find rowing uncomfortable after some time. Anybody that has advice would be appreciated-thanks.

I have the same problem. The first months I could not hold my knees together because my legs were too broad, now I have the 'other' problem. I guess I have to loose more weight to solve this. So for the time being I erg 'wide'.

I had and sometimes still have the same problem. The best solution I have found is wearing compression shorts by Undergear $ 20. US. found at Dick's sporting goods or The Sports Authority. Walmart also sells compression shorts found in the men's sportswear section. I think they are "Starter" brand compression shorts.

I'm hung and these compression shorts have been a great help with keeping things in place while rowing on the erg, Each time you put the shorts on you may appreciate the support they provide, but after a long row such as a 10k, you just want to rip the damn things off.

Compression shorts look like lycra boxers, but are not boxers.
Briefs, I don't think so! You want the compression shorts by Undergear.

One bit of info, there is a product called Body Glide, way better than the petroleum jelly I would imagine....comes in a stick like deoderant for easy application, not greasy or sticky etc

I haven't needed it while erging. I highly recommend it if chafing is the problem.

Luckily I have never suffered from the problem whilst erging.
I did slip once on the "Spinning Bike" on a hill stretch.
