i've got the polar chest strap HR monitor - I bought it along with my model C rower a few years ago .. never replaced the batteries ... recently it has started acting up... no HR data will appear for entire rows... intermittent...

around the same time i moved the rower close to my TV and am now using my laptop alongside it (for RowPro) ...

i'm wondering if it's the batteries dying or interference from the laptop/TV ...

Q: how long do the batteries usually last .. ballpark .. ?

The new ones with the little transmitter module that snaps onto a soft strap have a little battery cover that you can screw off with a coin, but the older, solid plastic chest straps need to be taken to a dealer to change the battery.

Mine is the old kind and it's starting to go as well. I've had it for about 2 years. Every once in a while now it has a hard time getting an initial signal, and it will not work reliably if I take the watch off my wrist (must be a distance thing).

is the battery in the chest strap or the reciever or both? I'm wondering exactly what I should replace...

also wondering if there are any other monitors out there that work with the PM3 .. it would be nice to have a single monitor working with my rower *and* my GPS jogging watch for example...

I would like information on replacing the transmitter in my polar HRM. I purchased it in June 1996 through Concept 2 and am fairly certain the battery is dead. I am uncertain what model it is but here is a description:

Hard plastic assembly with fabric strap
"POLAR ELECTRO OY" stamped on back
Concept 2 item No. was 1747

Does anyone out there know how the battery can be replaced? Must I return it to Polar or are there "service centers" that can do it as a walk-in?

If I choose to buy a new transmitter what current model would you recommend and can I buy it at a local distributor? I only need a chest transmitter compatible with the Concept 2 Model C receiver

Thanx for any info you can provide, john

They were very quick and replacing the chest strap. Even sending it from Canada to the US.

Alternatively, buy the chest strap with the flexiable waist band. Then you can replace the battery yourself in the future. My wife bought a Polar M32 recently, and it came with flexible chest strap, it's very comfortable and works just fine with my original Polar Pacer watch. Now she's complaining about be wearing it all the time

I don't recall the model number off-hand, though. It is a pretty old one. It may be different with the newer models.

Porkchop
