Training

I just started rowing a couple weeks ago to keep/stay in shape for kayak racing this spring. I do weightlifting too and some other cardio.. But man, before these past couple weeks I thought I was a decent rower, but this thing is kicking my arse and I'm improving like crazy and I LOVE it!!

I just crawled off the erg 5mins ago, tore up my palms, and tore the hell out of the damn paceboat (both literally) and I have a cold so haven't begun to train for real. Did I mention I love this thing????!!!!! It IS supposed to tear your palms up though, right? At least initially? Well anyway I'm off to rest my appendages and back on the erg again! I love it: it's snowing outside and I'm happily erging away.
Just wanted to say I love my erg, that's all. (Don't tell my boyfriend that jk)

How about the rest of y'all?

So, do you like your erg?

Seriously, I've never had trouble with my palms other than some minor calluses. If it's a big problem for you, you might want to try cycling gloves.

No, it's not supposed to tear up your palms. See the thread on blisters. Your fingers act as hooks, so ypur palms barely touch the erg handle.

The only issues I have ever had are spots that I thought would become blisters (thanksfully did not) on my fingers after some of my early long rows (60min+).

I know you love the erg but maybe loosening your grip on the handle may help. I have always held the handle with my fingers and not my palm at all. I am in the same boat as you (so to speak). This is the first workout that I have done where I have really hated my recovery days. I have to admit that most of my "recovery" days are really just short slow days. Maybe I need to find a support group. Gotta love endorphins

Steve
