I was the same as you when I first started, wanting to do 2k's often to knock the time down, so I won't tell you to forget doing them like others, just have fun at the moment, and then when the time won't come down any more you can look more seriously at how to train.

As others have said you do have a technique problem at the moment to produce so little power per stroke during a 2k (rowing at such a high rate), and it will be counter-productive to do 2k's with this poor technique. I would recommend that if you want to do another 2k today, don't go over 30spm at all. Concentrate on driving hard with the legs at the beginning of the drive, and on the recovery on being slow, smooth, and relaxed. I dare say that if you use better technique at 30spm you will get a better time than you did at 42spm, with vastly more power per stroke.

Pete

Thanks Pete, the next 2k pb will be in a few hours mate, I will post here with the results when I`m done.

I will try the 30 spm rate and see how I do.

Chat later.

Ok guys, just got back from the gym and beat my pb from 7:43.1 to 7.38.3 so knocked just over 5 seconds of
I also felt I could of done more which I know I shouldn`t.

I tried hard to keep my spm down and found that very hard because it felt like if I did my pb would of been over 10 mins. I certainly felt it using the full slide with full power on the pull so now know I must be doing something right.

Anyways check my times out and if someone can critize it for me I`d apprechiate it -

time / meter / 500m / s/p
7.38.3 / 2k / 500m / 37

1.52.4 / 500 / 1.52.4 / 36
1.55.6 / 1k / 1.55.6 / 37
1.56.0 / 1.5k / 1.56.0 / 38
1.54.4 / 2k / 1.54.4 / 39

That`s it for my pb`s this side of 2004 just going to get some long rows in and enjoy my training.

Thanks to everyone in advance and me and my family wish all of my internet friends a very happy and safe christmas.
