I did my longest row to date yesterday - 45 minutes for 8300 m. (Re-started rowing on 12/27/05 after 15 + yrs off.) I am definitely feeling it this morning, but I'm going to get back on today to try to loosen up some of these muscles.

This challenge is really pusing us. My husband is trying to stay ahead of the average. I'm just trying to avoid falling off the back of the pack.

Horrorrowers. I like that word!

How many Friday the 13ths have also fallen on a Full Moon? THAT would be scary, especially in MY line of work! This one had the Full Moon the next day, but there might still have been some of the effects.

Btw, my apologies to Fowl Players for not keeping up with my goals. I posted this info on the Women's Forum, too, but I have just felt like crud all week for some reason. Tired, achey, but no fever or anything else to indicate that I was "sick." As a result, I'm about 20k behind my weekly goal for the JVTC and the JWLC. I know I should cut myself some slack because it's all about being a team and working together and all, but I feel bummed that I couldn't row as much as I had planned. We're still doing pretty well though. I'm still awed by the meters folks are cranking out for this challenge. Have we got a great group, or what?

Every day has been a struggle for me to row this week, but I've managed to get some done. I missed 3 days in a row--doesn't happen often! I figure my body's trying to tell me something for a reason, so I backed off and only rowed when I felt like I could do worth a hoot. I'm still above the average meters per team member. No speed or distance records for me this week, however, I think I broke some sleep records....

I'm starting to feel more like my ol' self today, so I'll see if I can't make up for what I'm behind. Just making me nuts to fall behind my goals like that--I'm SUCH a Type A.

How's Emilia doing??? Are you feeling better yet, Emilia? I wonder if I gave you my bug??

Pat/Qwacky--keep on kickin' those tailfeathers, girl! You're about to pass me up on the main team board. So's Marian Deakin, but you guys just keep on cranking! I don't even mind being passed up by sister Ducks. It's all for a good thing, hey? Maybe once I get to feeling better, I'll make ya's chase me all the way to May 1st!

GO DUCKS! GO FOWL PLAY!!

--Jen in WI

Hello Fowl Players.

I'm doing fine. Whatever bug I had left after 2 days - almost as suddenly as it had come. Yesterday was housework - ugh. We were having guests over. For dinner. Which meant that besides having to clean, I also had to cook something to feed them . Actually, it was fun, but I didn't get to row. More guests, so more cleaning, tomorrow (office party for my husband's group). It will be catered, but the house will need to be even cleaner than yesterday. I guess I'll have to do an early row.

QUOTE

The "lurking" Little Bit finally had to add her 2 cents in today! I have a friend that says "dust after 5 years gets no worse"!! Don't know that I want to prove her theory. but I believe it! Somehow housework always comes behind a lot of other things such as rowing, motorcycle riding, sewing and quilting, as well as quality time with the Dearly Beloved.

I've found that you reach a point where you really have to give the dust bunnies names and consider them family pets .

Can you believe we've rowed almost SIX MILLION METERS???? In a little over 2 weeks! Keep it up, everyone.

I will be ergless from Jan. 29 on (traveling), so I will need to do some extra meters to make up for the 2 days at the end. I'll have to think about how I'm going to fit them in.

Emilia

I think I caught that bug from our captain.. better to take a day off and have something left for the rest of the month. I might have a chance to catch CAP'N E if she takes off 29,30,31... we'll see...

Hey tbaugh!

You've worked pretty darn hard, so you take that rest and get over that bug. I had something working on me last week, too, so I'm a few days behind on my schedule I had set up for this JVTC. I think a viral thing has been working its way through the Ducks as well. Hopefully "Duck flu" isn't quite as bad as that Avian flu!

--Jen

Finally getting over a weird issue with tendons in my right foot, and have been concentrating on keeping my heel down at the catch. Almost back to normal distances, added 9300+ today.

Tim

aka tj

Hi Tim,

I have a hard time keeping my heels down. I've found that the foot holder on the C2 irritates the back of my heel (a problem area for me with shoes as well). Achilles tendon area. The C2 strap is not directly touching my foot, it's just the pressure through the shoe that is a problem. So, I row with really loosely-tied shoes and let my heels come up out of the shoes as they will. It was the only way I could find that was comfortable for my feet. I also need thick, soft socks. I've adjusted to the fact that this makes my feet hot .

Glad to hear you are able to row normal distances again.

Emilia

Hey tbaugh,

My travel plans are not definite yet, but they should be set soon. It's just convenient to leave on Sunday, so my husband can drive us to the airport . Feel free to overtake me anytime. I have missed a couple of days lately. If you're REALLY ambitious, try to catch Pat. Isn't she amazing?! It was really hard staying off the rower this morning, since I knew an evening row would be out, but I had to do some homeschooling with the kids. Maybe if I went to bed earlier, I could get up early and row, but I doubt it. I am a night fowl, not an early bird.

Emilia

Obviously this rowing stuff takes time to get up to some of the distances that you guys manage even daily. I've worked my way up to being able to handle about 10K a day without much physical repercussion (fatigue, soreness etc.) I believe in listening to the body. Undertaking undue physical stress while trying to recover from illness usually results in prolonged illness and possible added injury. So.. after a day off and an "easy" 6K yesterday.. i feel like I'm coming out from under the symptoms. So.. here we go again....

GO>>>>------> FOWL PLAY
