I have recently tried an erg sitting on a pair of Concept 2 slides and had an interesting experience as I bounced backwards and forwards between the two ends of the slides.

Obviously I am doing something wrong as I should sit fairly motionless mid-way between the two extremities, but how exactly do I fix it? Quicker hands, smoother catch, what exactly?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Undo the foot straps, so excessive yanking is tougher to do, stay smooth and consistent each stroke, watch the behavior of the slides and how to make changes to it, then relax and row normally, the perception is different enough that you can be causing problems just due to the new sensation, but that will go away with some practice and familiarization.

Erg on,
Paul Smith

PS - If anyone come along and calls slides "cheating", don't bother to pay attention to it. Studies show that there is essentially no difference in effort, with the slight advantage going to being off the slides. Individual expereinces vary according to technique problems.

kick the front of the erg away with the legs, and only open the back/pull with the arms after the legs have finished. (well the back will overlap the legs and arms a bit, but arms will be straight until leg drive finishes).

It's a bit like rowing strapless, and once you can do it, it's hard not to...

If the slides are level, then it will be a technique issue/problem that causes you to hit the front/back ends.
