I want to get to 7,500m for that one. The only trouble with rate restricted stuff is that it favours the tall heavies - since they can get a better distance per stroke.

The Cross Team Challenge is 30 min at 20 spm--that could be a good event for you, too.

Happy New Year!

Hey Doug,
So that will be 12.5 meters per stroke.

Last year we had a Taff Challenge for the 30 min at 20 spm. The goal was to try to hit your PB. Speedy actually did it after I think 4 tries. It was amazing. I went for it a mess of times and came within 85 meters. I don't remember if anyone else tried it or not--Godfried, do you still have the stats somewhere? 7251 is 12.09 mps. and I didn't try again after that, it was a killer.

Should be interesting to see who ends up in Taff 1 for this one!

I really should do a 2K and find out what it really is. But not today. \
Now there's a distance I HATE.

Sorry if I am invading your Taff Attack thread, but I don't know where else to post this:

Congratulations, Carla!

Your ever-improving times keep amazing me - I can't wait to see what you're going to do with your 2k now, if this last 6k was only one second off your old 2k pace.

Anyway, keep up the good work. It is definitely inspiring. I sometimes think I am soon to be past my prime age for sport, but then I see what you and Carole Mac and my other "elders" are doing and it keeps me motivated.

I'm afraid that my 6K is at its best right now, so if you are going to try today, I won't be challenging you.

Past your prime? goodness, you are just a baby! and will be surpassing us old folks soon with the intensity of your training, and coaching by PaulS.

As for my 2K, I will probably avoid doing anything about it at all or at least procrastinate on it until 4/30 and just do it to get a score in the box for Nonathlon. I'm petrified of 2Ks.

Happy New Year! and the good luck on your 6K attempt today. It will feel very sweet after the Row Pro mess up you had the other day.

Carla, you really are the Wonder Woman of the Taff Attack team. That 6K time is staggering especially when compared with your 2K PB pace. Mindblowing!!

I wish I was able to report a similar sort of success over the 6K distance. Was not looking forward to it as my performances of late have been very poor and I've had sniffles and sore throat for the last week.

Just got home after my attempt and I have to hang my head in shame . My target was 1:53 pace. I started well and kept pretty well to the target pace up until about 5mins in then I started to feel seriously tired and lethargic. Slowed the pace down to 2:00 but just felt weaker and weaker. Got to 10mins and I stopped. Had a bit of a think and kept telling myself "the team need another time to complete an extra boat". So after 40 secs or so, I restarted at a very conservative pace of 2:04-2:07 .

Rallied for the final 500m just for my own good but obviously the damage had been done by then. Crossed the line in a very embarrassing 24:30.1.

Splits (if you're interested):
1:51.1 r27
1:52.6 r27
1:55.8 r27
2:00.6 r25
1:59.7 r25
2:41.7 r18
2:03.9 r24
2:04.2 r23
2:04.7 r24
2:05.9 r23
2:01.4 r25
1:48.5 r30

HR graph for the session:
