Merry Christmas everyone and a new idea for the New Year; My sis-in-law, who is joining us for the January challenge got me interested in this. It looks like a fun way to get some fast times and interact with our common-wealth neighbors over on the islands (it won't be long before we visit there!.) At the UK concept 2 site http://www.concept2.co.uk/forum/index.php in their competition catagory with the listing C2CTC.COM they have a monthly challenge with teams. People on the team who are interested try to row the challenge for that month. The best 5 times are averaged together and then your team is ranked. For instance, in Dec. the challenge is a 6k, in January it is going to be a 30 minute row going at 20 strokes / minute. Each team has to have at least one light weight and one female. It might be pushing it a bit for doing the December challenge, but I'm going to try and do a 6k later this week. This doesn't have to be just people on the Eh Team either, any Canadian (or people that think Canada is a good place) can join. It might fit right in with the regular January Challenge and the round the world expedition! You only have to row the distance once, although you can bang your head against the wall over and over to clip off those nano-seconds if your competitive drive shoves you that way! This is the web site for the "Cross Team Challenge" http://www.c2ctc.com/ There are some pretty fast dudes and dudettes over there with the likes of Dwayne Adams. But there are also a lot of normal folks too. Not that Dwayne is abnormal or anything . So, if you are interested, let me know meekins@nothwestel.net and sign up at the UK site listed above. If we get an lot of interest we could have a couple of teams. I've noticed that each of the teams i.e. Taff Attack have their own symbol, something we might want to think about.

Merry Xmas, eh, hosers.

And great rowin' by the way.
We got an early Xmas present when I checked my artiithmetical skills in a spreadsheet. We were 13.7 kilometers to the good. Unfortunately my charting had all ready taken that into account, so our total is higher but our position on the map is not changed all that much.

We have just passed Fredericton. For the last few days we have travelling alongside the St. John's river.

These canoeists on the St. Johns must have wondered what happened to their serenity as our scull went flying past, eh?

As far as the January challenge and the virtual Eh!Team is concerned, we have a formidable team built up. I did not realize how much attention our Cross Canada Row was attracting. Here is our membership list for the January virtual challenge. We have members from around the world! Welcome everyone.
Francois Audet
John Berryman
zeb berryman
Barrett Brickell
Scott Broussard
Rob Clayton
Krysta Coleman
Linda Corkal
Jim Corkal
Ed Desjardins
Virginia Drewry
Jane Grice
Mark Keating
Sue Keller
Carol Kittredge
abby martin
DArcy McKittrick
Shannon Meekins
Allan Meltzer
Robert Moore
Daryl Muz
Bob Nelson
Kirk Nelson
Trevor Reeves
Michael Siska
Brian Turner
Jill Vandal

Our newest members are Virginia Drewry and Abby Martin who have just signed on today - Dec 24.

Merry Xmas to All

Jim

I broke the 7:00 barrier, 6:59.1.

Total distance today 15k

Shannon said that she is going to do a 6k this week to try to get in on the Dec. (UK) challenge. I'll probably do one between Tues. and Thurs. So, so far we have 3 people in on the Challenge, but the more the merrier. John.

I broke the 7:00 barrier, 6:59.1.

Congratulation John! I knew you could do it!
What were you splits this time ?

I won't be able to contribute much in the near future, since I hurt my back.
The pain comes from a small muscle between my spine and the right shoulder blade, and it is getting worse each time I try to row. Fortunately, I can swim, bike and run (sounds like triathlon training again!).

I should have rested last Sunday after my 60 min TT on Saturday, but went x-country skiing and did weights instead, and I was back to swimming and erging on Monday. If there is something I have learnt from this is that one should take a day off every week, and that one should progressively build up the distance and the intensity of training and not try to achieve too much too soon!

I wish you all a merry Christmas and happy Holidays!

Francois

This is an epidemic of back pain among the hosers and other rowers, eh? Sorry to hear about your back, Francois. I am thinking of writing a quick book about back pain and rowers, prevention, quackery, what works, what's safe, etc.... I will have to put some time aside to do it

We have 3 new members to the Concept2 Eh!Team. Please welcome
Vince L, Adrienne H and Allan Meltzer. Could someone please make sure they know the routine for posting. They are also tyring to sign on for the January Challenge, and once I get data problems sorted out they will be with us for the row across the Atlantic.

The January challenge membership continues to grow on the Eh!Team. We have Canucks, people that were born in Canada, people that have been to Canada, people that are friends of Canada, and people that kind of know where Canada is signing up. We should be able to power around the world in no time. I think we should make a brief foray over to Antartica so we can reach all of the continents, is everyone up for this?

Best of the holidays to everyone, mind your backs, eh!

Jim

Congratulations John on your sub seven effort!
I've never rowed a 6k test before, maybe I'll give it a go. (guarenteed a PB anyway).
Be glad to join the Eh's effort for the team competition. May not be helpful but it will keep my times moving the right direction.

Cheers,
Kirk
