Ok team, I survived ( and I use that term loosely) my first 10K. The overall time was not exactly speedy ( 42:18) but it is a place to start!! I ordered a heart rate monitor today, does anyone else utilize one?

In the words of Dean WOHRMER ( animal house fame) " Fat and stupid is no way to go through life....." maybe I can loose weight!

paddle on team.......
I figured that by joining the Eh!Team, my rowing would emerg from the realm of best intentions. So, in the words of Bob and Doug (whom I don't exactly immortalize, but I do like beer)...row on, eh?

Welcome to the team Linda. I guess we will have to watch our manners now that we have a female rowing along side us.

BTW, is the "hoser" term universal to both genders or do we need to invent another one for our female colleagues - hosette maybe?

11.8K today

Welcome Linda.

Bill, that is a great 10K time, really. Look at mine (down in my signature line). I use a heart rate monitor all the time, my usual rowing HR is between 150 and 180, when I run I can get up to 185ish.

Darren

We are whizzing through Southern Alberta now. A semi arid land of ancient dinosaurs and bad lands.

I hope we can withstand the heat.

I use a heartrate monitor when rowing. I purchased the link that Concept2 has to hook into your PM3 monitor. When you use this in conjunction with rowpro, rowpro automatically keeps track of your heart rate and stores it with the rowing file. The comparison feature in rowpro takes into account, strokes per minute, distance per stroke and heart rate when comparing one row to the next.

Thanx for the great response on the circles vs. rectangles, Mark. I was hoping it wasn't aliens.

Keep those kilometers coming.

Jim

Hi all,

Another 11km for me today (Oct 25th).

I use a HRM and have the C2 interface, although I tend to use the HRM watch as sometimes the HR disappears from the monitor.

I enjoy using the HRM and most of my exercise (rowing or running) is done at around 70% of Max HR (aerobic).

It's motivating to see the times come down while rowing at the same HR.

Currently my 10K row @ 70% of Max is 41m40s (2:05/500m)

Keep pulling.

I have found that my HR will drop off the monitor at times as well, so I wear my watch also. I was wondering why the HR drops?

Darren

Welcome back Brian. How was your trip? Welcome Linda, it's nice to see the whole family rowing! We shoot for the same thing, although the kids are intermittent. My heart rate monitor does the same skipping thing too. I wonder if it is a bug on the monitor. For me it usually goes out when I'm trying to go fast. Maybe the monitor has trouble keeping up with us Canadians! 8 k today.

Question on the target HR. It's been awhile since I've worked with a target HR. Do you still shoot for 220-age X 80% ?

9K for Tuesday

QUOTE(Bill Slater @ Oct 26 2005, 12:28 AM)

Question on the target HR. It's been awhile since I've worked with a target HR. Do you still shoot for 220-age X 80% ?

That is a rough estimate Bill, that just happens to be exactly on the money in my case and it may work for you as well. My MHR (last time I checked) was 182; 220 - (my age) = 183.

C2's Training Guide has been a very valuable tool for me, there is a section there that explains the (torture) test to determine your true MHR.

Mark
