Better to ask for 5k or 10k times or else the 30 minute and 1 hour distances. College coaches pay more attention to your 6k time than your 2k time. For real fitness, check the half marathon or marathon times. The 2k may be the main game in town for competitions, but it's the long hauls that show the difference when it comes to fitness.<br /><br />regards,<br /><br />Bob S.

<br /><br />2k 6:48 <br /><br />age 47<br /><br />weight 190lb <br /><br />ht 6' 1"<br /><br />No 6k attempted but 5k at 1:45.3 pace. Happier at longer distances but now working on 2k. <br /><br />Started 8 months ago from reasonably fit background so hoping (in vain I suspect) that further improvements to come will offset deterioration due to age for a while yet.<br /><br />Neil

I can 2k in about 8 and half minutes. I am 45. I weigh 35 pounds less than when I started ergin' a year ago at 205. Recently the good doctor stopped recomending bp drugs. And you know what? I am three quarters of an inch shorter than when I was 21 and I still claim to be the same height when asked, 6 even. I bought two single shells this summer and I am learning to row them both. I have never completed any type of a marathon and most of the time I row distance lenghts calculated in miles not meters. What I am interested in is: what makes a Teen , male or female, interseted in erging and not a more hazardous sport. We never called the extreme sports and when we got tore up, old farts said your going to hate that when you get older. I do and I love all of my scars. all of them. What makes you erg hammer?

I erg for only one reason. to simulate the exertion of rowing when i cant get on the water. I don't see erging as a sport, i see it as a nessesary tool for becoming better at rowing. if i could choose rowing or erging i would go rowing no qustions asked, however when i cant row (lightning, winter) i train on the erg, and i try to make the best of it by challenging myself for pbs and new workouts and new workout theories.<br /><br />i hated erging, and i still do a little bit, but when its your decision on workout intensity, workout volume, workout quantity, and when its towards a personal goal it is extremly rewarding. Its the same as skateboarding,(which ive done for 2 years now) the fun isn't in falling or spraining ankles or fitness. its landing that new trick that you and your buddies have been trying for the past 2 weeks. you try every day and every other day you hurt yourself trying. but one day you'l get it. the reward is like an addiction, you learn to get your fix and bust your ass in the process.
