My dad bought one of the concept2 rowers a while ago and because of absolute boredom I decided to try it today. I absolutely loved it and after visiting the website I now have a workout scheduale to follow. I have always been a little overweight and even after 6 years of ballet and 2 years of ice hockey I still struggle with extra weight. Don't get me wrong I'm in shape, more so then most of my skinny friends. I have bigger calfs then my dad and people always ask me where I get all my energy from. I figured that trying out the rower will build my upper body strength and possibly make me leaner, lord knows I don't need any more leg muscle. I've tried losing weight and my guess is its my eating habits, I don't eat fast food or junk food, my stomach has never reacted well to those so I basically stay away from it, but I need some advice as to how to eat better to benefit my new workout scheduale. Any advice would be much appreciated!

You'll find all sorts of great advice on this forum. Just browse around the different catagories. This long thread in the weight loss catagory (<a href='http://concept2.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=2008' target='_blank'>LINK</a>) has a lot of great advice. It's a team of rowers who's primary objective is to lose weight. Readup on it and you're welcome to join us if you are interested.<br /><br />Good luck to you<br /><br />Kevin<br />

However, its a great machine since you can do short pieces to build muscles (8 x 500m, etc) or long pieces to build up your endurance (60 min, etc.) If you're main objective is to lose weight, then you should do the long pieces. The longest piece you should do throgh for your first week should be 30 minutes, which I'll gaurantee you will be very challenging. For your diet, perhaps switch from a diet where you consume three large meals to a diet where you eat 5-6 small meals in a day. Finally, keep track of how many calories you burn in a workout which you can see on the monitor.<br /><br />- Good luck and have fun
