Hello!

I'm a high school senior and will be attending college in the fall...I wanted to get more in shape over the summer and try out crew in the fall. I had a couple of specific questions but would welcome any tips anyone has to offer!

1. I work out at the gym for about 60-75 minutes like 4 times a week. Right now I run, bike, and do a little with the weight machines (mostly leg exercises). Especially with the weights, I feel like my routine is kind of aimless/random...does anyone have any suggestions as to what machines I should use to target rowing muscles, specifically? Is there anything else I should do differently with the workout?

2. We have a rowing machine at our gym but I haven't tried it yet. What settings should I use? What times should I aim for? What is a good workout routine for the rowing machine for a beginner?

Thanks!

For your weight training, I'd say follow any well rounded and balanced routine. Meaning, work your chest as much as you work your back, work your biceps as well as your triceps. Rowing uses just about all the muscles in your body, not just legs. Keep it balanced. Get a magazine like Muscle and Fitness and follow some regiment in there to challenge you. Rotate upper body (M, W) with lower body (T, Th) to keep it all fresh.

On the rowing machine... just get on the machine and start rowing.

Good luck! And have fun!

Kris

QUOTE(pinacolada55 @ Jun 22 2005, 11:08 PM)

Hello!

I'm a high school senior and will be attending college in the fall...I wanted to get more in shape over the summer and try out crew in the fall.
