OK folks, now the new site has been running a while, here is my question, it is aimed mainly at the people who predominantly used the old US Forum.
I first discovered the US Forum around 3 years ago, and despite it's clumsiness, I did prefer it, I used to have it as my home page, expand all over 2 days, and could see at a glance what was worth looking at.
The new one has lost it's individuality, I think. I realise there is no going back, but a poll would be interesting anyway. Comments welcome.

Cheers
Steve

A mild vote for the old forum. I liked the tree format, but maybe because I was used to it.

I use the new one by clicking on "active posts" and then the blob. Gradually getting used to doing things that way.
A lot of good new features here. Like these polls, for instance.

Rick

Like everything, there's good and bad about both. The tree view of the old forum was very convenient and I greatly prefer it to anything I've found here for quickly viewing all new messages and who wrote them. However, that's about the only thing that was better. The new forum is so much more powerful that it's got my vote. The best thing is your ability to edit your posts. Ever want to take back or revise what you wrote on the old forum?

I especially appreciate C2 for making this available for us all to use! Thanks!

As a bloke from the UK, I tended to only occasionally use the US forum, but I found it a bit clunky, and lacking in features (especially when posting a new message).

This new site looks a lot more like the UK one, and as usual, that's no bad thing.

Xav

Much prefer this site to either the Old US or the current UK .... essentially more flexible and more features. I find the ability to check new posts easy and to go to and from my Log book a nice touch.

A direct link to the rankings would be another nice touch to add.

I voted for the old forum because I liked the tree format. I found it much easier to follow discussions and match replys with somebody else's question or remark.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

hmm. well i preferred the old us forum right up until it got hacked... then i didn't like it so much.

this new one is very commercial - and while it does have lots o features, i like the simlicity of the old one. that said, i have spoken with the folks who developed this forum software, and they assured me that a 'tree view' was planned for the next release some time next year.

I've found that the 'new posts' combined with subscribing to a forum combined with the realization that i could click on the "last post by" link to quickly jump to the most recent posting anywhere makes this one pretty easy to deal with.

i've also noticed the much quicker take up by UK visitors - and also the quick use of polls and the like. so far so good.

cheer all - and good idea for a poll!

-bill

I liked the old one better because of the tree view and the fact that if you had read something it was a different color. You could much more easily follow discussions, and if you weren't interested in something you could click it without reading it and then ignore that the next time you were on.

I am wasting much less time on the forum now--which is a good thing--because I don't like it as much, and though the features are cool, I don't feel like bothering to mess around with figuring out how to use the avatars & signatures and all that. Guess I'm just kind of fuddy duddy....

Carla

For the same reasons as others stated above, "the tree view" and the ease of finding new posts, I prefer the old forum. However, there are lots of positives about the new forum (the signatures, the ability to edit posts--a big plus, the smilies, and a few other things I probably haven't discovered yet) so my preference of the old over the new is marginal.

Bill W.

This new forum has many bells and whistles but right now my schedule is very tight and I really miss the old forum with any new posts highlighted. This has essentially made me a non-participant except for an occasional visit.

Frank

The old forum new posts highlighted feature only worked if you use one pc all the time, if you use different pc's it didn't help at all.

just click active posts (or set it as the forum start page) and it does the same sort of thing... only better...

In my favourites, for C2 forum I have:

http://concept2.ipbhost.com/index.php?a ... /b>

(instead of http://concept2.ipbhost.com/index.php)

So when I go to the forum it lists active posts as the first page I get.

Just thought I would resurrect this thread. Voting still close, only 3 votes in it, so get voting now, personally I hardly ever look now since the demise of the old Forum, just not individual enough now. Just my humble opinion :-)
Cheers
Steve
