We have, instead—and quite obviously since you know who we are—been "showing ourselves." When you publicly post on a forum like this one, you are inviting the public (or at least the portion of the public which frequents this forum) to read and follow your discussion.

Like a train wreck...this thread has been "asking for it!"

Alissa

I pledge $50 in Canadian or American currency, whichever is worth more on the day of the event, to the Dwayne Adams Race Fund. I'm afraid this doesn't make me a man of substance, since I'm confident that Mr. Adams won't take us up on our offer. He has had many occasions in the past to race at his convenience and at little expense. Why would he now act any differently? It must be evident to everyone that the Dwayne Adams Race Fund is meant not as a pragmatic proposal but largely as a means of humiliating its ostensible beneficiary. I am a little ashamed, I confess, to be joining this jeering squad. However, a secondary purpose of the Fund is to give the skeptics among us an opportunity to declare ourselves. So, yes, I am a disbeliever.

Although I think the scores claimed by Mr. Adams are well within the realm of the possible, even for a man of his age and bodybuilder's physique, I don't believe that he himself is capable of them. His failure to pull a sub-7 in public and his often bizarre responses to sincere queries lead me to this conclusion. When Xeno wanted to know why Mr. Adams has been reporting a vastly increased training volume over the past few years without any improvement in his trial scores, he mumbled something about improving his aerobic base and left it at that. He has never explained why he doesn't take part in erg races, although he is perfectly willing to post his scores at the top of every ranking. He has repeatedly promised photographs and videos without delivering any. His only races take place on water, in a double with a 60-year-old of indeterminate talent for a partner, thereby conveniently diluting his performance.

In sum, Mr. Adams has taken a great deal of effort to report fabulous training volumes and trial scores, making himself one of the most prominent members of the erging community, yet he has done absolutely nothing to allow the public to measure his performance. The testimony of his associates and a verification code from a machine tucked away in his garage count for nothing. If I were a judge, I would convict Mr. Adams of fraud. But I am only a citizen, so I merely accuse. Mr. Adams, I believe you are a fraud. I worry that your fraudulent actions bring our humble sport into disrepute. If you wish to answer my charge, please take part in any public erg competition sponsored by Concept2, and show us a performance within 5% or even 10% of your claimed scores. Alterrnatively, please retire from the sport and make no further claims as to your prowess.
