(This is speaking from my experience as a 175lb rower) As for the good races, well I was watching some of the top junior women, and I gotta I was not the only one commenting on the fact that a number of those girls pulling the fastest times could stand to lose a few lbs. Mind you when I made my post I was not referring to the grossly obese category of person, more the category that could stand to lose about 20lbs and get nice and lean.<br />I will definitely agree that it is nice that you can erg at any weight. Competitions
Hmmm interesting question. I started erging not knowing about competitions at all, and would probably continue without them, albeit, at home and for fitness. The number of competitons is very small and from Denver quite expensive to get to, so if it was solely for the comraderie and bon homme I would have to look at it from a monetary perspective as well, though those things are very hard to hang a dollar sign on. Internet racing, forums and challenges are all helpful in filling up the slack. Also, I think for a lot of lwts, you have to factor in OTW rowing as well. In small clubs it seems that lightweights have a chance to make boats just by attrition. Nice question, thanks for puttingit. dennis

Mark<br /> </td></tr></table><br />yea... i (was)(am)(have been) that overweight guy who pulls pretty well on an erg but sucks on the water... but i'm working to change that in a big way(pun intended) i mean as I drop weight my erg scores get better and i'm able to row in a 4+
