Hi

Just got back from Toronto late last night. It was a great event and alot of fun was had by all. A few technical difficulties prevented the races begining on time, but apart from that it went very smoothly.

I don't have the results (they are not posted yet), but the best time was 6:02.

The surprise of the day was in the novice/recreational category, where someone pulled 1:32 pace. Pretty impressive.

On another note, Ranger was on the event list to race in the Veteran Men (50-59) Lightweight category, unfortunately he was a no show.

I have some pictures and a camera movie from the event which I will try to host later tonight.
I competed in the Junior A Men's LWT division. I am used to racing people under 145, 165 is a whole different story, seeing as I am only 130. I went 7:27. PB for me, and its at least a starting point, goal for end of erg season is 7:18.

By the way, photos are up but results are still on the way.

photos --> http://cdn-indoor-rowing.com/2005%20CIR ... dex.htm

It was a great day for all involved and I thought it went pretty well.

Next year I'll compete (as an recreational / novice), but I won't be able to beat the guy who was pulling 1:32 pace. My god he was good....

Hi Simon

From your various posts it seems that you are developing a keen interest in erg racing and I would imagine you've been doing a fair chunk of training. Don't be surprised if you feel like doing the 2k race in your age/weight category by next year instead of the 1k rec/novice race.

Its interesting to see the spectator viewpoint. When the races got to be 1:45 to 2hours behind, it was extremely difficult for competitors. Warm up, cool down, warm up, cool down.

Look forward to seeing your video.

Sounds like you were

You are right on both counts. I'm close to breaking 2:00 pace, only being seriously training since december. Concentrating on core fitness before building strength. we will see if I;m ready in a year from now. !

Having trouble getting the video online. No sound though. Should be up by the weekend I will post here when it is.

He may have hit 1:32 for part of the race, maybe he could have even held it, but with a 5 second lead he didn't need to.

To me the more impressive result was Philip Martens who did a 06:24.3 in the Masters Men 2000m. That's about a 1:36 pace for a full 2k. He was very smooth, didn't even look like he was trying hard (although obviously he had to be).

When I posted I was going from memory and noted he was pulling 1:32 for awhile. Still impressive

Yes, Philip Martens looked very cool and collected. I'm sure he could have turned it on some more if he had wanted.
