To say I'm excited about my 2K time would be an understatement. As best I can tell, it's the best in the would in the 85+ category. I was rowing at the local YMCA and it went something like this:

Time Meters /500 S/M
9:21.7 2000 2:20.4 35

2:20.6 500 @ 34spm
2:20.4 1000 @ 35spm
2:20.1 1500 @ 36spm
2:20.6 2000 @ 38spm

I was able to accomplish this with the help of Frank Herkenroder and world record holder Paul Hendershott cheering me on! Let's here it for the PM3 control and the ability to verify your results!!!

A great big thank you goes to Brickett Bailey!

Paul Randall
(feeling younger all the time)

I am delighted to see you sticking with it.

I did my 2k this morning at Xeno's Iron Oarsman. I managed to improve my CrashB score by over 11 seconds, logging an 8:06.9. Altitude makes a whopping difference, since my best time at 4000 feet was over 8:41. Evenso, a very large part of that improvement was a result of Xeno's coaching. I was pushing too hard in the middle and he warned me to ease off a bit - to save a little more for the finish. As it turned out, when I got into the last 500 meters, I was able to get below a 2' split time and hold it there. I think that my split time for that last 500 m was under 1:55, but I will have to wait until we get back home where I can check the card again. Xeno is a great motivator and his encouragement was a major contributing factor to my result. Unfortunately, he noted that my technique is not all that it should be, so he left me with several pointers that I need to work on to improve it.

Now if only I can repeat this at Long Beach or Boston, I'll have it made. Of course, Dean Smith will soon be in the 80+ category and will quite likely reduce all previous 80+ records to historical footnotes.

regards,

Bob S.

Hi,

Can I just say to Mr. Randall, CONGRATULATIONS and you are amazing! That score is unbelievable. I'm so inspired.

So I got around to sneaking one of these 2k's in between racing and practices. Not ideal but I'm glad it's done so I can focus on the rowing for the remainder of the season (only one race left- Princeton Chase this Sunday).

2000 m @ 33 spm
1:48.9/500m=7:15.9

That's 3.7 seconds off my PR but a good starting point for this early in the season, so I'll take it.

Best of luck to you all!

Libby

PS- This is my erg face:

22 LWW
