What is important is its efficiency, the work the stroke does, given the effort. Because of certain changes (more use of the slide, a fuller finish, more legs), it is now 2 watts per stroke stronger, with just about the same amount of effort. Two watts per stroke is worth 20 seconds in a 2K.

I used my other stroke to the limits of its potential. There was nowhere else to go with it.

ranger

I also row at a normal drag now (135 df.). I used to row at high drag (175-200+ df.).

As a 55-year-old lightweight, I now row at over 12 SPI. I used to row at a bit over 10 SPI.

Most of my competition rows at 9-10 SPI.

This margin I now have in stroking power is an _enormous_ competitive advantage.

The 10 SPI that I used to row at came naturally. The over 12 SPI I now row at is a product of my training over the last two years.

When I realize the full potential of this new stroking power, I think I will row 6:16.

ranger

The guy in the light blue and white jacket coxing Nicholas Nistal is from my club here in Miami Beach. His name is Francisco (I can't remember the last name), used to be the coach for the Miami Rowing Club, great guy.

Heather

He was recruited by Northeastern out of Florida Tech. I knew he was a really good technical rower, but damn, I had no idea he a 6:00 erg in him!! Jeez!! I guess training with fast guys really brings out the speed demon in people!!

Francisco is training/coaching out of the Miami Beach Rowing Club now if anyone is interested. He's got a sick-looking Empacher that he is continually tweaking like some tech-mad NASCAR mechanic.

Altho I gotta say, it's been a while since I last saw him messing around with his boats. We missed seeing him while he was on vacation this winter.
BTW, sounds like you're local and I likely know you, who are you?

Heather
